Greetings!
We are VERY excited that our favorite time of year is here: Summer Reading time, and we look forward to sharing it with you.

The idea behind summer reading is simple: Help everyone, regardless of age or reading ability, improve reading skills. Of course many of our activities and literacy programs are tailored for younger readers (to help them avert the "summer slide"), but we have programs sure to captivate adults and teens, too.

The kickoff is this Saturday, at 11 am, in (we hope) Church Square Park, but if the weather doesn't' cooperate, we'll move the whole thing into the lower level of the Main Branch at 500 Park Avenue.

Mile Square Summer Reading is all about community, our Hoboken community. Most programs, activities, and reading titles have a local flavor, but it also helps you expand your reading horizons.

One of the many fun aspects of this program is that you can win prizes. Useful, fun prizes, What are they? Come to the kickoff and we'll show you.

You don't need to wait until Saturday to sign up; you can do it right now on our Beanstack Summer Reading site. Signing up is simple, and it's open to all, regardless of where you live.

Here's the line-up of Saturday's events

Hoboken Kids Crafts
12 pm: Join us for a variety of Hoboken-themed crafts and coloring activities. All ages.
Bubble Dance Party
1 pm: We will be playing with bubbles and dancing to our favorite story-time songs. All ages.
Demolition String Band
2 pm: Demolition String Band’s Elena Skye & Boo Reiners weave harmonies out of joy and heartbreak, despair and redemption, myths and truths ... all great topics for a Summer Reading book.

Just in case you'd not heard about this PRIDE event
Tuesday, June 21 at 6:30 pm

Join us in person (masks required, please) in the Small Program Room on the lower level of the Main Branch to discuss Honey Girl, by Morgan Rogers.

This compelling story depicts the journey of a recent Ph.D. graduate who attempts to figure out what is truly fulfilling to her in adulthood as she processes her challenging relationships with her family--and attempts to make things work with a woman she married in Vegas without even knowing her name.

The Pride Book Discussion Group reads and discusses books centered around LGBTQ themes each month of the summer. Any LGBTQ-identifying person or ally who would like to explore the representation of queerness in various types of literature is welcome.

Catch the BookBike at Elysian Park in Hoboken on Friday. Get a library card, check out or return books, and stay for a special children's Story Time in Elysian Park.

This is "weather permitting," of course. Before heading to Elysian Park, please check our events calendar. If inclement weather means we have to cancel for this date, we'll note it on the calendar.
