FRAUD ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have been receiving phones calls from our members about a text that is circulating appearing that it is from us with regards to our Visa Debit Card. The text instructs the cardholder to call a phone number listed in the text immediately. Once the number is called, the person that answers asks the cardholder for all of their personal information - including their 10-digit Social Security Number. The problem is all of the cardholder's personal information has just been provided to a fraudster who will now no doubt use it to create profiles that they can use to position themselves as the cardholder.

We recommend the following points to help you avoid compromising your personal information:

  • A text alert from Parkview Community FCU Fraud Detection Center sent you warning of suspicious activity on your PCFCU Visa Debit Card will NEVER include a link to be clicked. You should never click on a link in a text message that is supposedly from our Fraud Detection Center. A valid notification from our Fraud Detection Center will look like this - "FreeMSG Parkview Credit Union Fraud Center $XXX.XX (amount of transaction) on card XXXX (last 4 digits of your PCFCU Debit Card) at Merchant ABC. If valid reply YES, fraud NO. Please call 833-735-1892 for assistance, available 24/7. To Opt Out of Fraud text alerts, reply STOP." The message will only provide information about the suspect transaction and ask you to reply to the text message with answers such as ‘yes’, ‘no’, or ‘stop,’ and will never include a link.
  • A text alert from our Fraud Detection Center will always be from a 5-digit number, most likely, 37268. It will never come from an email address and if it does it will come from ''.
  • If our Fraud Detection Center calls you, the call will come from 877-253-8962 or 877-253-8964. You may hear the following from automated system - "This is the Fraud Detection Center calling to verify recent activity on your Parkview Community Federal Union Debit Card ending in XXXX (last 4 digits of your PCFCU Debit Card). If this is (your name) press 1. If not, press 2. Please make your selection now." You will then be connected to a live representative who will only ask certain questions to verify your identity before asking you to confirm the suspicious transaction. The representative should never ask for your 10-digit Social Security Number. If they do, hang up the phone and call the credit union immediately at 412-678-9564 (press option 4).

Also make a note that:

  • The Fraud Detection Center will NEVER ask for the PIN or the 3-digit security code on the back of a card.
  • Remember that fraudsters will pose as call center agents, often asking cardholders to verify fake transactions. When the cardholder says no, they did not perform those transactions, the fraudster then says that their card will be blocked, a new card will be issued, and that they need the card’s PIN to put on the new card. Many people believe this and provide their PIN. NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR PIN!!!!
  • Regularly check your account(s), whether online or on your mobile app, for suspicious transactions, but especially if you are unsure about a call or text message you’ve received. If anything looks amiss, call the credit union directly for assistance.
  • If you receive a voice or a text message from our Fraud Department and you're unsure about responding to it, call the credit directly for assistance.

We hope this information helps provide you with some peace of mind about what to expect should you ever be contacted by our Fraud Detection Center.
