SI Chico E-blast news & more
Dec. 17, 2019 | Volume 20 Issue 20
Message from President
Carrie Pavis
Greetings!.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, to all of you who were at last week’s meeting for just rolling with the changes. Sometimes life can be a bit chaotic, for me that is how I feel I live my life, always juggling things.

Our original speaker this week could not make it, so I have a wonderful speaker to take his place. Her name is Kristina Carter from Camp Fire W.I.S.H.

I would also like you to bring a Christmas Tradition to share.

It’s hard to believe this our last meeting of 2019. I’m looking forward to 2020 and my next 6 months of being your President.

In service,
SI President's Appeal December 10
You still have time to contribute to this awesome project that Margaret VanLaanMartin gave an update on at last weeks meeting . You have the opportunity to make a personal financial donation or write a check to SI Chico and use the notation Dec 10 Appeal to support this worthwhile project. Please give your check to Carol Burr on December 18.

The Road to Equality is our next Soroptimist International President’s appeal for December 10. We are invited to join this two-year program to find and empower women and girls who have been left behind. The appeal will raise awareness of human rights challenges that prevent women and girls from reaching their full potential. The Road to Equality appeal 2019 through 2021 will focus on issues already the focus of much of the SI advocacy work, such as child marriage, FGM/C, the rights of older women, human trafficking, migration, and domestic violence. A grassroots project for each topic will bring stories from the field that we can share, allowing Soroptimist to turn up the volume of our global voice. Webinars and seminars will unite our membership, and host important conversations that bring to life the stories, issues and challenges that matter to women and girls. On the road we will renew relationships and make new ones as we join together with other organizations traveling together to increase our presence and our impact; none of us can do this job alone.

Please join us from October 1, 2019 through September 30, 2021 on The Road to Equality as we transform the lives of women and girls through innovative projects and activities, with your valued financial support, your voice and your commitment.

Please bring your donation for the December 10 Appeal to club tomorrow as a basket will be passed for personal donations to be made.

Thank you,

Margaret VanLaanMartin

Originally from a small town near Mt. Shasta in Siskiyou County, I’ve lived in the Chico community since 2002. My purpose for moving was to continue my education at Chico State after receiving my AA at College of the Siskiyou’s. While I was in school I worked for Tri Counties Bank, where I was able to gain my first hands-on finance experience. During this time, I fell in love with the Chico area and one of my best friends, now husband, Chris Haro. I graduated with a degree in Business Finance and was engaged to Chris that same year. We have 2 beautiful children, Olive (11) and Nico (5). They both love sports and are fluent in Spanish and English.

I managed a large college apartment complex that has had such a wild reputation since the 70s that it had earned the nickname “The Zoo”. Nine years later, I wanted to follow my true passion of becoming a Financial Advisor so that I could help others understand their finances and provide them with personalized advice from a local professional. I was accepted into the Edward Jones financial advisor training program in 2016. I’ve been an advisor for 3 years now and earned the professional designation of Accredited Asset Management Specialist (AAMS) this year. This job provides me with flexibility as a working mom that I am truly thankful for. Another passion of mine is providing for those in need. I serve on the Community Housing Improvement Program board and have enjoyed being part of Chico SI.

A few random facts:

I love painting (acrylic), snowboarding, traveling, kickboxing and staying active

I was Homecoming Queen in 1997

I've been a bridesmaid in 17 weddings

My favorite Food is tacos
