Hello ResLife!

We had our first bargaining session! Over 50 Reslife workers from every neighborhood joined our first bargaining session last Friday. After every session, the bargaining committee will send out a summary of what happened, but the best way to stay in the loop and show our power is to attend yourself. Our next bargaining session is Tuesday January 9th from 3-5pm on zoom! We will share the link in January.

Dec 15 Summary:

Our first bargaining session was a success! After making us wait to start bargaining all semester, BU administration finally agreed to meet with us on the first day of finals at 5pm for a one hour "meet and greet". We came prepared and shared our full set of proposals which you can read here. You can also read a summary of the full contract here.

Highlights include:

  • a wage proposal of $4,500 a semester with additional training pay
  • meal plans or food stipends for every reslife worker
  • reasonable workload levels including expanded radius's, 20hour a week work limits and better scheduling procedures
  • rights to accommodations and accessible workspaces, training and housing
  • modifications to training that allow RAs and GRAs to have a real say in programming, training dates when we agree to take the job, a 9-5 schedule and more
  • anti-discrimination and harassment rules
  • much more! go read the contract or at least the summary :)

The session started off with everyone introducing themselves and administration was impressed by how much we showed up! Then they asked us to agree to "ground rules." We rejected ground rules because the are additional regulations to follow that only serve to limit our power at the table by preventing us from communicating transparently about our contractand tone-policing us. We plan to bargain in good faith and follow normal, federally-mandated rules for bargaining.

Then we shared our full contract proposal and asked BU administration to review it and return with their response. We finished the session by asking for more bargaining dates, every two weeks next semester which BU agreed to provide this week. (Sign the bargaining dates petition if you haven't so we can keep them to their word.)

Organizing Bootcamp and Brunch

To win our proposals will take all of us! Come learn some organizing fundamentals (and eat some bagels!) this Thursday, Dec 21st at 10am in CILSE 101! This training is for everyone, from people who have been very involved to folks who want to start building our union now!

in solidarity,

your bargaining committee
