NEW LINK FOR POLICE INCIDENT REPORTS
|
|
In case you have the 100 most recent Police Incident Reports for Garden District bookmarked on your computer, there is a new link to the reports:
As noted in previous newsletters, Don Ijams of Peter Howell Neighborhood has wished to retire. He is the creator of the program that sorted the incident reports by neighborhood and has maintained the site for years and years. We are so grateful to Don.
A resident of Mitman neighborhood, Harold Hallikainen, has volunteered to host the production of police and code enforcement listings on computer equipment that he manages. The main index page for all Tucson neighborhoods is here: https://neighborhood.w6iwi.org
The links we have previously used will be discontinued soon.

311 CALL LINE FOR FINDING OUT INFORMATION OR ASKING FOR NON-EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE
|
|
When I was first elected in 2009, we had discussions around the M&C table about how to stand up a non-emergency line for people to call, avoiding clogging up the 911 system.
Last week, after significant investment and work by our Public Safety Communications Department staff, I.T., TFD, TPD and our executive leadership team across all departments, the 311 system is finally up and running.
The purpose of a 311-call line is to allow people a non-emergency way to get information or assistance with city services. An example might be simply getting help with a water bill adjustment. Or calling about how to address a homeless camp nearby. Those are not 911-types of calls and to rely on the emergency line simply ties up that call-taker while other true emergency calls are waiting.
Since this is not an emergency line each call taker can spend more time with callers than is the case at 911. And because calls may take a bit longer to sort through the commo department is providing more than one way to connect with 311.
- Of course, simply dialing that number is the first. In addition you can access 311 by using the online platform.
-
You can find that at www.tucsonaz.gov/311. A
- nd finally, there’s a 311 app that’s available in both Google and Apple stores. That app allows you to both report and to track the progress of items you’ve reported. You access it by opening the See Click Fix app. You’ll see the 311 option on the screen:
Our regional 911 center has received some significant upgrades. The call takers are well trained and ready to help you with your emergency calls. The implementation of the 311 center is going to be a huge help to the emergency system, decreasing wait times at 911, and giving callers with non-emergency needs a more appropriate way to secure city services. The city manager’s team deserves a ton of credit for working through the logistics of getting this up and running.

BE CAREFUL DRIVING OUT THERE!
|
|
This accident was at Pima and Alvernon this week. The speed limit on Pima is 30 MPH. How does an accident like this happen? We have no details, but hope that no one suffered major injuries.
At the AGI crime meeting this week, Community Service Officer Lori Oien reminded everyone to be especially careful at intersections. If you are first in line at a light, when the light turns, wait at least five seconds before accelerating. Ignore it if someone honks. Make sure traffic has stopped and it is safe to proceed.
Numerous residents have complained about vehicles speeding, using the center turn lane on Pima as a driving lane to pass vehicles on the left, dangerous driving by westbound traffic on Pima at Swan where it narrows to one lane, and vehicles even passing cars on the right, using the bus lane and bike path. Lt. Ericka Stropka has alerted Motor Division to the speeding and other problems on Pima between Swan and Alvernon.
You can also report unsafe driving behavior by calling 911 for immediate officer response or through Traffic Watch, an online form which an officer reviews to later contact the registered owner of the vehicle.

|
FROM TPD TRAFFIC WATCH:
**Si desea realizar esta encuesta en español, clic aquí**
Reckless and unsafe driving remains one of the top concerns for Tucson residents and our TPD Traffic Safety Unit is dedicated to making our roadways safer through daily practice enforcement.
Please note that the Tucson Police Department highly discourages drivers to use their mobile device while driving to record other drivers' violations. Using your mobile device while driving is against the law and will be reviewed as a violation if submitted. The Tucson Police Department highly discourages any driver to follow others in order to capture footage as this can escalate a situation and become dangerous. Passenger's cell phone video or dash cam video is welcome.

RECYCLE NON-WORKING LIGHTS AND GET $1 OFF ZOO LIGHTS ADMISSION, TOO
|
|
Recycle your old nonworking holiday lights! Once again, @reidparkzoo has partnered with @recycoinc , a local business that recycles scrap metal and other materials so less resources need to be mined out of natural areas
Mining can cause erosion, sinkholes, loss of biodiversity, and the contamination of soil, groundwater, and surface water by chemicals emitted from mining processes. These processes also affect the atmosphere through carbon emissions which contributes to climate change.
As consumers, we can do our part to dispose of our waste properly!

DONATIONS FOR THE HOLIDAYS
|
|
FROM STEVE KOZACHIK'S WARD VI NEWSLETTER THIS WEEK:
Our collection needs continue to be shampoo, sunscreen, lotions, toothpaste/brushes - generally hygiene products. Also, cool weather clothing, new socks and underclothes. While we were out at Casa Alitas last week, I noticed they might also be running short on shoelaces. (shoelaces are often taken away at the border).
We at the ward 6 office, and the county folks, CCS and volunteers out at Alitas continue to be grateful to everybody who is taking part in this ongoing donation process. And whatever doesn’t make its way to Alitas will find a home at one of the city housing shelter operations.
Bring to the Ward VI office, across from the Loft, behind the Wlagreens on Speedway.

PLASTIC REPURPOSING PROGRAM
|
|
If it is plastic, WARD VI will take it!
Upcycle your plastic into plastic
Byfusion building blocks
Take your plastic waste to
the Ward 6 Council Office at 3202 E First St
Behind the Walgreens across from The Loft Theater
Sorting is not required and you CAN bag your items!
You do NOT need to remove paper labels on plastic
and it does not need to be totally clean.
If the dumpster is not there when you drop off your plastics, it means that it has been picked up to be emptied. Just leave your Plastics against the wall. Be sure the bag is tied so plastic does not go flying. Ward VI volunteers will put the bags in the dumpster when it is returned. The Ward VI dumpster gets full so quickly, it has to be emptied multiple times a week.
