Happy New Year!

Cholla District Weekly Update

Dec. 31, 2025

Lauren Tolmachoff

Dear Cholla Residents,

I am aware of the recent media report of a possible new ICE detention facility to be located in Glendale. The city has not received any additional information or any official notice from the federal government about this topic. We are in communication with our Congressional delegation in Washington DC as well as our Washington lobbying firm, and no one so far has any information about the proposed detention center in Glendale. I promise to promptly share any information I receive about this matter with you.

As we approach New Year's Day, I have provided some details for adjustments to city business hours, as well as information about the use of fireworks below.

My office is always open and ready to assist you. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns that you may have. I value your input and opinion.

Sending warm wishes to you and your loved ones for a safe and happy New Year ahead!

Best Regards,

Lauren Tolmachoff

City Offices and Glendale Public Libraries will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1 and reopen on Jan. 2.

Glendale residents only need to remember three holidays - Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day - when curbside trash and recycling collection will be delayed. On all other days, including federal holidays, collection will follow the regular schedule.

Upcoming New Year's Day Holiday Schedule:

  • Thursday collection (Jan. 1) moves to Friday (Jan. 2)
  • Friday collection (Jan. 2) moves to Saturday (Jan. 3)

The City has provided a short video with tips on items that can and cannot be recycled related to the holidays.

Holiday Recycle Tips
Christmas Tree Recycling

The City of Glendale Municipal Landfill located at 11480 W. Glendale Ave. is closed on Jan. 1 and reopens on Jan. 2 with normal operating hours (7:30 AM - 4 PM).

Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center (FRAC) will be closed on Jan. 1 and then reopen for normal hours on Jan. 2. For more information about all Parks and Recreation services and programs, call 623-930-2820.

Paratransit and ADA Public Transportation will not be impacted by New Year's Day closures. GUS Bus 1 will operate on Jan. 1 from 8 AM to 6 PM, but GUS Bus 2 and 3 will not be in service. Visit Valley Metro to plan your next trip or contact Customer Service at 602-253-5000.

Visit the City Web Site for a full press release on all holiday hour impacts.

While many residents enjoy the use of fireworks during the holidays, please be respectful of your neighbors, and remember to follow Arizona state law and Glendale City Code.

State law (ARS 36-1601) allows only ground-mounted or hand-held sparklers that don't fly up in the air between Dec. 24 through Jan. 3. No fireworks are allowed in Glendale between 12:30 AM - 7 AM.

Illegal use of fireworks may be reported to the Glendale Police Department non-emergency line at 623-930-3000. Visit the Fireworks FAQ page on the City Police Department web site for more information.
