Last newsletter, I was amazed that the Sept/Oct newsletter was #11 in 18 months and...here is #12 in 20 months. That's a bit remarkable for my ADD-addled impediments to present a modest display of consistency to 'the world'. (insert: your own self-referential laugh)

That said, the latest set of Co-vid lock-downs did set me back with getting this to you the last week of November as I had hoped. While day-job work has been busy, my 'focus' struggled a bit. So a bit delayed but...done.

As for 2021, there is a lot planned for you, my fellow music geek. I am thankful your attention and priority with staying informed with what's going on in this small part of our music worlds and hopefully some of the wares I'm preparing will be 'purchase worthy'. If not, just keep enjoying the work.

OH, I have to call attention to something right below....it's like the DEAL OF THE YEAR. It's from SpyderPop Records and this offer is exclusive JUST FOR YOU. Really - it's not available where else. Just here and until December 31st. (view it right below)

With that, let's get to the music, shall we?!

Hot on the heels of Dolour’s “The Royal We” comes this terrific 22-track, specially-priced 2CD set of Shane Tutmarc’s music released in between Dolour records under his name and as Solar Twin. Along with some previously unreleased tracks, the other songs were previously available only on vinyl or as downloads – until now!

The latest from The Junior League (Joe Adragna) is a remixed, remastered, resquenced and in some cases re-recorded collection of songs initially recorded and released in 2010 as a Joe Adragna solo release.
"The janglicious "You're Gonna Die Alone", the disc's best track. Combining Rickenbackers and the vitriol of an Elvis Costello with a catchy melody (and featuring harmony vocals from Susan Cowsill), it's almost worth the price of admission alone.” – Absolutepowerpop.com
Influences range from The Beatles, Elvis Costello, Jimmy Webb, Jacques Brel, The Smiths and David Bowie. Bowie’s drummer, Woody Woodmansey and Elvis Costello’s drummer, Pete Thomas both guest. The record was mixed by Pat Collier (of The Vibrators).
FaB have created a swaggeringly fun record that cultivates some of the most beloved traits of pop music and yields a product that is not only easy to relate to but is stylistically different from anything else that’s on the market today.
Sweden’s prog-poppers The Greek Theatre” treat us to a peek into the development of songs from their three previous efforts that eventually made their way onto them. But these are not lo-fi, acoustic guitar and voice bedroom demos folks.

Enticing names like The Byrds, Roger McGuinn and The Moody Blues form the memory, imagery and atmosphere that unfolds as you wander through this poised and languidly passionate voyage. Lovers of pastoral, psychedelic sheens should shimmy right on in.

The solo album Rick Hromadka (Double Naught Spies/Maple Mars/Ruby Free) has been toiling with for well over a year has been done since before the pandemic, but there was no way he was gonna release it while the world stopped turning.
"A powerhouse of an album!" - Pseu Braun/WFMU “This is one of the best albums of Rick's career. It’s up there with the magnificent 2010 Maple Mars album, ‘Galaxyland’. Yes, that good.” - Mike Lidskin/Woody Radio
Still stuck at home during the pandemic, Dropkick’s Andrew Taylor wrote and recorded these 10 songs (playing all of the instruments) for the fourth installment of his “Lockdown Session” series between October 9-15, and mixed them on October 16 in his cold garage.  Like Andrew’s “Lockdown Session - April 2020” disc, he went back to his phone where fragments of songs were stockpiled and set himself the challenge just to complete them. Talk about fresh, hot off the press, high quality new material!
Click on the below images of each album to get
more information and order.
Known for quick-paced, punchy songs packed with hooks, raunchy guitar work, deadpan vocals - and a sardonic, low-brow sense of humor - the Ruins were regulars on the Boston club circuit for several years before the release of their 1986 debut, 'Lassie Eats Chickens', and follow up 'Ruin's Cafe'.

Today, the band returns from the junkyard and garage!
Makers of live garage rock, girl group, musical goodness. Rocking female vocals, good time beats and howling guitar leads come together to rock the party and get the good times rolling.
Beebe Gallini wants you to get down to garage standards, should-have-been hits, and all new classics. Bring your dancing shoes as we beg, borrow and steal our way into your hearts!
This one got a sick wall of sound filled top to bottom with midwest power pop, glam and fuelled on Stiv Bators, Dead Boys, The Choir, The Raspberries, Blue Ash, Cheap Trick, add in a dash of NY Dolls.

"a classic three-minute pop song that will leave the power poppers and glam punkers equally satisfied"- FasterLouder
"While The Hi-End is a band inspired by all of the great eras of rock and roll, the two cover selections here really hit the intersection of pub rock, power pop, and first wave punk. And you know that's a real sweet spot for me! "Heart of the City", of course, is the Nick Lowe classic. "Tonight" is from the first album by The Boys - one of my personal favorite U.K. '77 punk groups. Both songs were among the first The Hi-End ever played together as a band. That tells you a lot about what The Hi-End is all about. Beyond that, these versions give you a great idea of what an absolutely killer band this is!" - Faster And Louder
Practically giving the snap, crackle, and power-pop crunch away with Marc Platt's brand new CD of candy coated new songs at "the nice price"!!

Includes digital pre-order of Colors Of The Universe "the nice price". You get 3 tracks now (streaming via the free Bandcamp app and also available as a high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more), plus the complete album the moment it’s released.
The key to everything is the songs. You know it, we know it, and Heatwaves know it too… Complete Recordings radiates delicious perfection, they don't have any excess or lack of anything.

The band's inspirations and references are clear: The Ronettes, The Supremes, The Crystals, The Shangri-las, and almost everything Phil Spector produced, but focusing on the pop side and not so much on the soul one.
ONE LAST TIME: IMPORTANT REMINDER:

2020 collection stuffed with 25 artists/tracks, including Kai Danzberg, Nick Frater, the Brothers Steve, Michael Simmons, the Bobbleheads, the JAC, the Decibels, Spygenius, Kimberly Rew & Lee Cave-Berry, Kelly's Heels and many more!

A large musical vocabulary and relentless drive to record the perfect pop song - all in honor and celebration of music's sheer emotional power. To summarize: The Beatles, Breeders, Zombies,
Kinks, Flaming Lips, Cars, Badfinger, Yes, and Debussy make up just some of the layers of the Warhol-esque sonic pop art painting that is The Stan Laurels.

Sonically, the record displays influences as diverse as Dennis Wilson, Teenage Fanclub, The Coral, Julian Cope, Grandaddy and The Triffids alongside the art of creating harmonious, insanely catchy songs, swathed in vocal hooks, using driving electric guitars and piano to deliver upbeat indie-rock.
Once a year, it's that time. Holiday and Christmas music!

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of it when it goes outside of the classic classics and good 'ole fashioned Protestant hymns(I come from a family of three generations of Lutheran preachers - on Mother and Father's side!)

But I understand I am in the minority so I've found a few things to make sure you are aware of.
COOL YULE
Released in 1996, “Cool Yule” is a compendium of cool, original Christmas songs from the power pop and indie pop underground, a grunge-free celebration of a favorite holiday, replete with hints of 60’s harmonies, catchy guitar riffs, and cool singalong melodies.
THE JAC

"Joe Algeri has released his annual Christmas single. Joe's been at this Christmas thing for 20 years now (and, yes, you can still get them all free at Bandcamp). This one works on two levels. You could apply it to the Covid lockdowns or you can interpret the lyrics as applying to a snowed-in situation. In any case, Joe gives us a fine uptempo Jangle Pop sound." Stubbys Stocking Stuffers
NICK PIUNTI
& THE COMPLICATED MEN

JANGLE-'MAS!

A new power poppin' Christmas classic that will happily make you play-and-play-and-play again!

"I'm generally a fan of Christmas music, but this song in particular really hits the spot for me. It's got the holiday sentiment this sort of song requires, but not in a super sappy way. It's a well-crafted pop song first and Christmas song second. "FasterLouder.com
THE MARTIAL ARTS
December 2020 sees the release of ‘Christmas With The Martial Arts’, a surprise four-song collection of winter-friendly music.

'My Christmas Was In June' was originally recorded by Ze Malibu Kids (feat. members of Redd Kross and that dog.)

UPCOMING NEW BOOK FROM JOHN M. BORACK - Arriving February, 2021

Was John Lennon meeting Paul McCartney more significant than John Lennon meeting Yoko Ono? Rubber Soul or Revolver? Which Wings album was Paul McCartney’s solo pinnacle?

In 100 brief chapters, John M. Borack discusses and ranks the greatest moments in Beatles history. An avid Fab Four fan since childhood and a music journalist for more than thirty-five years, Borack has created a book to agree with and disagree with, and one that is sure to spark conversations. A love letter to the greatest rock band of all time, The Beatles 100 is a book for Beatles buffs and casual fans alike.

Fab Four fans have no shortage of summer reading. They can read biographies of the band as a whole or portraits of each Beatle individually. They can even read a book about Jimmie Nicol, the drummer who subbed in for Ringo in 1964.
But the true Beatlemaniac will likely want to dip deep into the discography as well. A good place to start? John Kruth’s This Bird Has Flown: The Enduring Beauty of Rubber Soul, Fifty Years On. Kruth shared some of his insights on the Beatles’ seminal album with CultureSonar.

Who knew that Rubber Soul was made for lovers?

CRAIG MULLINS
This is a a section that I've wanted to develop and present to everyone where we lift up and focus on HOW MUSIC FANS LIKE YOU AND I ORGANIZE OUR COLLECTIONS of...all our stuff.

I'm not sure how best to display this but for this first pass, we'll let the pictures do the talking as they hopefully might give you some new ideas or approaches for your gatherings of stuff. And let's face it, you and I are fascinated how others 'deal with' the large gatherings and piles with our music and more! :-)

If you would like to present and display how you organize your collection in an upcoming newsletter, drop me an email:

In Craig's words:
"As a teen my first obsession was Kiss... and I still own mist of their stuff. I was given Kiss Alice! by my Mom. She joined the Columbia House record club and let me and my brother pick one record each. I don’t recall what my brother picked but here is that Kiss Alive!
I guess punk rock came next. I was the record reviewer for my high school paper and most everybody hated the stuff I loved... but I didn’t care. And I always remember an old school mate telling me later that I was right, XTC is great! So some of my tastes rubbed off on at least one person from back in the day!
I remember sneaking a copy of Never Mind the Bullocks into my house, worried that my parents might not a approve... but they never really said anything about what I listened to... and I thank them for that!
My favorite artists of all time are Van Morrison, The Clash, Nick Lowe, and Elvis Costello.
Here is a poster from one of my favorite concerts because both Van and Elvis performed!
But y favorite concert of all time was seeing Talking Heads on this tour in Pittsburgh (which is where I was born and raised)
My job? I am a computer consultant. I specialize in data and database systems. I’ve written several books on the subject and currently run my own consulting company
And I’m kind of a book collector, too!
I have loved music from the earliest age. My Mom used to blast country music as she bakes and cooked and I still love those 60s and early 70s country legends like George Jones, Johnny Cash, Tom T Hall, and Charlie Pride.

The first album I ever bought myself, with my own money, was Fly Like an Eagle by Steve Miller Band... and I still own it today.
