Home for the Holidays
When Shawn turned 18, and "aged out" of the foster system, he became homeless. Thanks to our street outreach program, Shawn found Synergy.  Now, Shawn is on his way to a home of his very own.
As the song goes, "Oh there's no place like home for the holidays..."  Isn't that the truth? For most of us, during the holiday season we look forward to happy times, getting together with friends and family, shopping and celebrating.

Unfortunately for the clients of Synergy Services, home may be a far off dream, a painful memory or non-existent.

Meet Shawn
Shawn has been in the foster care system since he was 2 years old.  In that time, he has been placed with several different families, group homes and residential care facilities. When Shawn turned 18, he "aged out" of the system. Having no connection to a home, resources, life skills or family, Shawn became homeless. He was scared, alone and unsure of his future. Thanks to our street outreach program, Shawn found Synergy.  Now, he is receiving shelter, his basic needs are being met and he is gaining the personal and life skills he needs to become a successful, responsible young man. Thanks to your support, Shawn is on his way to a home of his very own.

At Synergy, abused children, homeless youth, struggling families and domestic violence survivors find the tools they need for a better life thanks to YOU With your support, thousands of people will find their refuge and hope this holiday season . They will gain the skills, knowledge and resources necessary to make home a reality. A wonderful place to be for future generations to come!

Walker in honor of Jamie Cummings & Jennifer Short--lead donors to the
campaign that built the center; dedicated the Tom & Ann Isenberg Friendship Wall to recognize all major donors to the campaign; and enjoyed Fall with food, wine, music & friends.

Chamber Gala Supports Synergy
Looking for a fun night out and a way to support Synergy in the new year? Accomplish both when you attend the Parkville Chamber gala!
For the survivors and their children that stay at Safe Haven, Synergy's Domestic Violence Center, fun is often a foreign concept. That's why we do everything we can to create it for them! Our thanks to Laura Harrell from the Apartment Association of Kansas City (AAKC) for her leadership in creating this amazing bike path in Safe Haven's backyard! She couldn't have done it without the donations of time and materials from Hot Mix Materials, Kansas Asphalt, Empire Striping and Furballs-n-4 Paws. We are grateful to all who came together to make this safe and fun path a reality!

Girl Power
Adding to the fun in Safe Haven's back yard is the amazing new sensory music wall created by Girl Scout troop 3524. Our thanks to these enterprising and caring girls for  working together to collect needed materials, build and install the wall. Together they created an experience that the kids in shelter will enjoy for years to come!

Deck the Halls
It's beginning to look alot like Christmas--thanks to the volunteers who helped our kids decorate the children's center. We so appreciate all the extra support we receive during the holidays that helps to share hope and joy with our clients.

Oh What Fun
Santa Crawl KC is proof positive that doing good is so much fun!  Thanks to the organizers & all the Santas who came out to join the fun!
Robin's Wrap-up
Dear Friends,

As 2017 comes to an end, I want to take this opportunity to thank Synergy's dedicated Board of Directors, our 150 capable and committed staff members, and each of you across the community who help Synergy fulfill our vision of a world without domestic violence, child abuse, homelessness, or bullying.

This past year has been both exciting and challenging. We passed the Children's Service Fund for Clay County, we completed an amazing year in our new "Jennifer and Jamie Children's Center", we started a second year of our program for formerly homeless youth at Park University, and we served tens of thousands of our community's most vulnerable women, children, and families. We had babies born, families reconnected, crises averted. We helped pass crucial legislation, addressed human trafficking, and learned new strategies to become fully trauma informed. Thanks to you and your support, we have been there every day to dry tears, hold hands, open doors, and change lives.

But as the year comes to an end, we still need your help! An additional year-end donation will help us meet our financial challenges. It is hard to believe, but Synergy must raise $23,288 every single day to provide our lifesaving services! It is daunting to think about that goal, but we do so with enthusiasm as we know it is an investment that will pay dividends for generations to come. Please help us fund the last few days of 2017 and break even as we start 2018. There are 17 days left in the year - that comes to $395,896 we still need to raise - helping would be a wonderful way to celebrate this holiday season.

We extend you good wishes for much joy and happiness. We value and appreciate you as our caring partners in this effort to heal the world one person at a time.
