The Centurion Law Enforcement
FCPO Newsletter and Bible Study
The "thin blue line" covered by the blood of Christ.
Fellow  Sheepdogs  & Supporters:

Police Week 2016 is coming to an end and we've returned home after an exhausting but "mission accomplished" outreach to our own in DC and VA.  Accordingly, this week's edition is an abbreviated one (stay tuned for next week's message).  However, I felt it important to share a recap of our mission as put together by fellow FCPO National Board member and teammate, Jim Bontrager (see below). In addition, the FCPO home office put this out as well:   FCPO in DC for Police Week.

With the grief of Police Week and all the other issues we deal with very much fresh in our minds, here again is last week's newsletter and devo on the topic PTSD and suicide: "Where's the Piper? God, PTSD and Police Suicide."  Also remember these newsletters are always re-posted for you on our Facebook   and  Twitter   feeds as well as on our website  (with full permission for you to use/adapt the messages for your own individual and group studies).

Again, please take the time to check out the new resources, prayer requests and event announcements posted for you below.  Let's endeavor to stay safe on the street but radically bold in Christ under the power of the Holy Spirit.

PRAYER REQUESTS

(1)   Former Arkansas City (KS) Chief Sean Wallace (and a former FCPO Nat. Board member) shared this: "Captain Mark McCaslin fell ill and has been in the hospital for about a month now. He is believed to be suffering from a very rare illness that causes debilitating neurological issues which prevent him from even sitting or standing. His condition has not improved over the month of hospitalization and we are all very concerned for him and his family. At this point it appears his road to recovery will be long and difficult. Mark and his family need our financial assistance as expenses are adding up for them. An account has been opened at the Ark Valley Credit Union in Arkansas City. Anyone who would like to donate to Mark and his family are encouraged to do so at the bank or they can drop off donations at the police department and we will get the funds there. Checks can be made out to Mark McCaslin Recovery Fund. The mailing address for the PD is 117 West Central Ave. Arkansas City, Kansas 67005. The mailing address for the bank is 1515 N. Summit Arkansas City, Kansas 67005. Please help us do what little we can for Mark and his family."

(2) Pray for all those hurting in the wake of Police Week during which we honored our dead (and remember the BEST way to honor our own is to do all we can to share Christ with them whilst they live).

LAW ENFORCEMENT BIBLE STUDY

Police Week 2016

Next week I'll share a special study that is inspired both by the Holy Spirit and via our mission outreach to our own during Police Week 2016.  In the interim, and with the understanding that Police Week and even our own memorial is full of messages that can deceive us, here's a timely message from cop-turned-minister Brian Stewart of Simple Message Ministries (via his " Daily Armor for Cops" postings). Brian writes,

DECEIVED?
The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to
be wise, and to do good. -- Psalm 36:3

LEOs encounter people who are involved in all kinds of sin and they seem to always have an excuse for their actions. While most of their excuses are easily seen for what they are, we do occasionally meet the person who is able defend his actions in a way that is almost believable. With that in mind we can learn a lot from today's verse. In Psalm 36:3 David may have been speaking directly of his enemies, but we can't tell for sure. In any case, he is speaking of a person who is overtaken in sin. When he says his words are iniquity, he is speaking of a sin that is planned, not something that happened all of a sudden. Sin that we commit in a moment of decision is still sin and it needs to be confessed and forsaken, but sin that is planned is all together a different matter (sounds like the current direction of our country). David describes this persons words as deceit, which is speaking of the person trying to justify his actions, or defending his actions with an argument that on the surface sounds believable but is actually false and deceptive. When a person is overtaken in sin they are compelled to rationalize their behavior to others, and in so doing they are being deceptive. People may be easily deceived, but God is NEVER deceived. Instead, He sees right down to the very core of our being and sees not only our actions, but also our thoughts and motives.

Next David says " he hath left off to be wise, and to do good". The person he is describing may have had the appearance of being good, and of being under wise judgment, but then all together abandons it for sin and in so doing becomes unwise. How quickly a person becomes blind when they yield themselves to sin! Instead of deceiving others, they are deceived themselves. This is a dangerous position to be in because the person becomes completely governed by their wants, desires, and passions; and at this point ruin is usually not far behind.

This gives us a picture of a path that we will all hopefully want to avoid; but how do we keep from being the person described here? First of all we need to be sure we know Jesus as Savior. This could easily describe a person who may have had a moral life, and considered himself to be a Christian; but had never actually entered into a relationship with Christ. For the person who is saved, we can avoid becoming this person by daily renewing our minds. I say it often and must continue to say it; we MUST spend time alone daily with the Father in prayer and Bible study so that His Spirit can cleanse our minds and conform us to His image. It's a close personal relationship with Christ that not only gives us the strength to turn from sin, but this is where we also gain the desire to turn from sin.

Thanks Brian -- right on target!

So what about YOU?  Are you deceived into thinking, "I'm good" when it comes to issues of your salvation? Despite the Bible passages on our memorial wall in DC, they are generally not about our service as LEOs.  A gain, religious platitudes, serving in law enforcement or being a "good person" by the world's standards will not save you. On the contrary, Jesus says we MUST be  born again  in Him in order to be saved (no "other" way) and live a life that truly counts for something (an eternal legacy that only occurs by serving under the power of the Holy Spirit).

Still not convinced (or convicted)?  Consider the following irrefutable  evidence :
(a) Think you're already "good enough" to "deserve" heaven? Take the " Good Person Test" and see how you do.
(c)   Cops and Salvation (a powerful message from police Commander Travis Yates of Ten-Four Ministries and Law Officer Magazine -- and one of the speakers at this year's RISE Christian Police Conference)

Again, the "Cure" for our sin problem (and all that ails us) begins with a genuine, life-saving/life-changing personal relationship with God in Christ. Come to the Altar and receive " The Cure."
