Last year, our community was awestruck with "The Grinch" performance. Magical in its presentation and interactive in its performance, Caleb Sigmon and his little dog Max delighted library patrons both young and old. Prepare to have your hearts filled with joy as the meaning of the holiday spirit is evoked through their performance this year.
The library will celebrate Festive First Friday on Friday, December 7 at 4:00 pm with crafts and snacks in the meeting room from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm, and the Grinch and Max will present at the back of the library. Take a selfie with the Grinch after the program! A big thank you to the Downtown Boone Development Association for their support!

Eight Word Mystery Contest Winners
|
The first annual Eight Word Mystery Contest fundraiser for the Friends of Watauga County Public Library concluded Tuesday evening, November 13, with a reception and announcement of winners. Many of the competitors were in attendance.
The winner of the $25 prize was Amy Millette with the submission, "African American Junaluska Graves. Sixty-five named. 99 nameless." The first runner up was Susan Poorman with "She cried out. He answered. He shouldn't have." Two entries tied for second runner up: Mary Tucker's "Rain revealed three gold teeth on the mound," and Claudia Thomas's, "The seance and ensuing horror were my fault."
A "mystery cake" was served at the reception with the recipient of a special piece receiving a certificate for a free entry in next year's contest.
The Eight Word Mystery Contest was sponsored by the Cook the Books, the library's mystery and crime fiction book club, and the Friends of the Watauga County Public Library. The competition had 36 entries, raising $288.00.
The library has a display of all the entries, so please stop by to read them. The book club plans to make this competition an annual fundraising event. Look for the next competition to begin in September of 2019.

The Movie this month is La La Land. This musical won multiple awards and the opening number is joyous! Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) and Mia (Emma Stone) are drawn together by their common desire to do what they love. But as success mounts they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart. Popcorn will be available. Please bring a seat cushion and drink if you like.
