First Friday Breakfast

Join us this Friday for breakfast at The Egg at 9am. Celebrate the season with our last breakfast gathering of the year.

A Note From Sue Winter-Hallman:

Happy Holidays to all of you from the Program Committee of Senior Community Connections!

We are very grateful to all our members who have attended our monthly First Friday Breakfasts, our Wednesday Walks and other local outings plus our 5th year celebration that we arranged for you. As they say, "it takes a village" and this committee and our volunteers have been very faithful and dedicated in helping you to enjoy life and make new friends and "age in place". We certainly welcome you to any event in 2023 and really appreciate your RSVP's to our events as we plan ahead for 2023. We are here to take you "out and about" and refresh your life. Beginning In Jan. 2023, we will be starting lunches out instead of breakfasts so watch for details soon. (P.S. if you have anything you would like to do or see, just send an email to: seniorsLKN@gmail.com and we will do our best to make it happen.)

Fondly,

Sue

Giving Tree Village

We are honored to be a part of Davidson Rotary Club's Giving Tree Village again this year. A huge thank you to Davidson Village Inn for sponsoring our tree. Please stop by and see our tree in person during Christmas in Davidson. Voting = donations and there are several categories of winners. We've been thrilled to place the past several years and hope we can do so again with your support. Donations given to SCC will continue to support the work we are doing to serve seniors in LKN.

Senior Community Connections

empowers seniors to thrive in home and community through a network of trusted volunteers who provide practical services, caring support, and social connectedness. We are neighbors helping neighbors.

SCC sailed into our 5th birthday this year, celebrating the work we have done and looking ahead to the work we still need to do, including extending our reach to serve more seniors.

In the spirit of this initiative, members lovingly created a nautical-themed tree to represent SCC’s services in the greater Lake Norman communities.

The anchors on our tree represent our dedication to meeting the needs of seniors in Huntersville, Davidson, Cornelius and Mooresville.

The life preservers represent the tangible ways we have helped seniors to age in place such as transportation services, technology assistance, and help around the home.

“I’ve been stymied with regard to making new friends since I’ve been here- until I found SCC, where everyone is so open and friendly, undeterred by my limitations… thanks again for everything– you’ve already given me the will and support to keep on keepin’ on!” - Ginny Davis

“SCC helped me in ways I never even thought.” - Becca Haun

Meet Janet Makee!

Mom. Grandmother. Church member. Traveler. Gardner. Volunteer. Committee member. These are a few ways to describe our lovely volunteer Janet Makee!

Janet has lived in Davidson for the past 24 years. You are likely to find her walking around the beautiful town, kayaking on Lake Davidson, or attending a service at Davidson United Methodist Church.

In less than a year, she has become an active member on the program committee, working with many others to plan activities, events, and social opportunities for members, volunteers, and donors.

“The recent celebration of the 5 Year Anniversary was special for me because I had the opportunity to meet the woman who had the vision for the start of the organization and to meet more members, donors and volunteers,” Janet recalls.

SCC is eternally grateful for the effort, work, support, and advocacy Janet selflessly provides to the organization every day.

“I feel the organization meets , often unseen , needs for older adults in our communities and can be a support system for individuals and families."

Janet Makee

Thank you Christmas Committee!

SCC is incredibly grateful for the members and volunteers who served on the Christmas Tree committee this year. Thank you for running errands, constructing, painting, tying, hanging, creating, cutting, problem-solving, and spreading your cheer in honor of our Senior Community Connections tree. We are truly thankful for new and previous volunteers who make our participation in the Rotary Giving Tree Village magical and memorable.

Sharing Stories and Smiles over Slices

This fun group gathered for some delicious pizza, for a little Pre-Thanksgiving Italian lunch. We are so thankful for the time we are able to spend together, creating memories with new and old friends..

A Unique 3rd Wednesday Walk
Our monthly walks are such a valuable time to connect, enjoy some exercise, and chat. This one was extra special, as we met at the Mooresville Art Gallery. Members enjoyed watercolor art from all over the world.

Home Safety Tips for the Holidays:

  • Use basic decorations that won't create clutter
  • Make sure extension cords are out of walkways
  • Consider battery-powered candles or using bright fruit and flowers as centerpieces instead of flame candles
  • Make sure all of the areas in the home are properly lit
  • keep exterior sidewalks clear
  • Be mindful of rambunctious pets and small children's toys while visiting others
