Kathy Doyle

With heavy hearts, we regret to inform you about the passing of Kathy Doyle due to a battle with cancer. Kathy and Bob have been members of the Century Club since 1987 and enjoyed many years of sailing and activities. Kathy belonged to many organizations in the Youngstown/ Boardman Ohio area and enjoyed gardening and various house plants and traveling. Kathy and Bob have two daughters. Amy Doyle of Madison, WI and Carrie Doyle of Pittsburgh.

In the early years, Kathy was on the staff at the Youngstown YMCA were she met Bob. They were married for 63 years. After that she was manager of the Monday Musical Club, bringing nationally known musical groups or individuals to the area for concerts.

Calling hours for Kathy are Sunday, December 21 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home at 8536 Market St. Boardman, OH 44512

Informational Meeting Recap

Thank you to all of those who were able to attend our sailing school meeting on December 6th. We had a great turnout and a very productive discussion.

There's a need to keep our school running, as it is a great marketing tool for PCC and offers us an advantage in this area (no other accredited keelboat schools near by)

Feedback from students about PSC and input on different teaching styles

Instructor training to be held at PCC in the summer of 2026 (both Small Boat and Keelboat Instructor courses)

Teaching schedule for 2026

Next meeting to be scheduled in March-April to discuss plans for 2026

Ham and Bean Soup

It appears Sue now owns the Recipes Column. Here's another one of our favorites, credit to Sue Porter:

Ham with bone in

Water

Chicken Broth

chopped onion

crushed garlic

chopped celery

chopped carrots

1 can Bush's white chili beans

1 can of Great Northern beans

1 can of diced tomatoes

ketchup to taste

hot sauce to taste

salt & pepper to taste

Boil ham with bone in water and chicken broth. Add diced onion, garlic and celery. Cook until meat comes off the bone. Remove bone and chop ham in bite size pieces. Add chopped carrots, beans and diced tomatoes. Add 2-3 tablespoons of ketchup and hot sauce to taste. Simmer on low heat for 1-2 hours. ENJOY!

Monthly Hors d'Oeuvre Parties!

Our monthly Hors d 'Oeuvre parties are some of our favorite events! No RSVP's required and no cost - just show up and bring a dish to share. BYOB or donate to the club fridge! During the winter months (Nov. - Apr.), parties start at 5pm on the first Saturday of every month. During May - October, plan on eating around 6pm to allow more time on the water! This is a great opportunity to invite friends or family and show them what we are all about or meet some of our new members. See you all then!
