Insider Info: Release Dates
THE DRAGON AND THE PEARL is set to
release in October 2011! The title is still not finalized, but I'm
sending ESP vibes to the marketing department not to change
it.
There are also two more Tang Dynasty short stories from Harlequin
Historical Undone with release dates TBD. I'm hoping those may be
published prior to October.
The first one is tentatively titled "A Dream of the Midnight
Chamber" which is a reference to the classic title, Dream of
the Red Chamber. This one is linked to The Dragon and the
Pearl, though it's not a prequel. They can be read in any
order.
The second story is an independent tale, currently titled "The
Scholar and the Song Girl." It explores the imperial exams as well
as the entertainment district culture and how the two fed off one
another. It's a love story about two people trying in their own way
to find a better future.
More info about those releases as they become available!

Chinese Clothing Online
Want to play dress up? This is the
best place I've found for ordering Tang Dynasty style hanfu --
those gorgeous robes that I grew up envying in all those Chinese
movies. Chinese Clothing Online is very
responsive and their clothes are beautiful. They also have armor
and accessories.
To
celebrate the acceptance of The Dragon and the Pearl, I purchased
another hanfu. Perhaps I'll get a chance to wear it to DragonCon
next year!
Also in a nice surprise, Chinese Clothing Online has given me
permission to use some of their costume pictures in my next book
trailer. I'm very excited about that and of course I'll unveil it
first here to newsletter subscribers next summer.

Chang Ai Li flees her wedding and her
enraged bridegroom in Lin's exciting debut, an adventure tale set
in turbulent 8th-century China. Ai Li, the only daughter in a
family of mighty warriors, is trained by her grandmother to fight
with light butterfly swords and defend herself and her family's
honor. Ryam is a foreigner trying to get back to his stronghold on
the far western edge of the empire. After he helps Ai Li fight off
brigands and soldiers, she hires him to help her evade her pursuers
and get back to the imperial city. Ryam is uncomfortable when Ai Li
calls him honorable, while she is amazed that he listens to what
she has to say. Despite being from different cultures and classes,
they fall in love. The especially vibrant writing describing the
culture, clothes, and countryside saves this from being just
another tale of impossible love. (Oct. 1)
