December 2015
From the President
Dear Members,
Thanks to Marilyn Fitschen for taking the snapshots of locations in our three communities for the new banner space above. I think these pictures make our newsletter feel more personal.
Without local elections and the biennial State of the Village event this year, our League has focused attention on other needed work.   Our new email and newsletter delivery system, focus group meetings, member mentors,  and scheduled member coffees are just some of the new ways we are trying to engage and sustain our membership. We hope you have noticed!
Remember to stop by the Holiday Social on December 17.  Celebrate the season with your fellow Leaguers!

Monthly Programs
Second Tuesday

On Tuesday, December 8, from 9:30-11:00am, Phillip Jimenez, President of the West Cook YMCA, will be discussing and answering questions on "Recent Successes of the West Cook YMCA and Community".  The Nineteenth Century Club is located at 178 Forest Ave., Oak Park.   Please join us for this free presentation.  Bring a friend to share in the discussion!

Drinks & Dialogue
Drinks & Dialogue will be taking a break this month.  But join us on January 20, at Doc Ryan's, Forest Park, to hear from Amy Starin, Director of the Parenthesis Family Center.

Membership Committee Meeting
Are you a new member of our League but not sure what we do?  Have you been a League member for years but would like to hear more about our successes? Then you need to reserve Saturday, January 23, 2016, to attend the member coffee, "Ways LWVOPRF makes a difference".  You will hear from Pauline Koch on the results from our Triton College Study and Diane Moses on what is so important about our Advocacy Committee.  We will meet at the Township Senior Service Room, 130 S. Oak Park Ave, Oak Park, from 10:00 am - Noon.  This is a great event to invite prospective members to hear more about our League. The Membership Committee will schedule more of these informal, informational coffees in the upcoming year.  Contact  Marilyn Cantisano
[email protected]  or Donalda Ellek
[email protected]  for more information.

Holiday Social
Please take some time out of your busy holiday schedule to join your League colleagues at our annual Holiday Social.  On December 17, starting at 6:00 pm, we will gather at Maya Del Sol, 144 S. Oak Park Avenue, Oak Park, to enjoy light appetizers and soft drinks. There will be a cash bar (no credit cards).  Street parking in addition to valet parking is available.  Dinner can be ordered off the menu.  This is a wonderful event to bring a prospective member to join you in socializing with other Leaguers. Thanks to Kathy Balk and Beverly Graham for organizing this event.
