St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.
We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.
From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi

Dear St. Rita Parents,
I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving holiday with your family. After a day of feasting, many of us spent the weekend getting ready for Christmas by on-line shopping, decorating, and more on-line shopping. Somewhere between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we may have overlooked that this past weekend we also celebrated the First Sunday of Advent.
The liturgical season of Advent is a time of "waiting" and preparing for the coming of Jesus. We often miss Advent's power because these weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas are full of secular Christmas events and preparations for Christmas. In previous years, the busyness of this season served to distract us from having an Advent season that truly prepares us for the celebration of Christmas, with all its meaning. With this year being so different than previous ones due to COVID restrictions, let us take the extra time we have over the next four weeks to truly prepare our homes and our hearts for the coming of the Christ child, the Savior of our world.
We are sending home with your child today a letter from our school board chairman, Ben Amarone, asking for your assistance with a special project for our wonderful faculty and staff. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Also, one of our Divine Mercy parishioners and a past parent, Mrs. Grazilla Zinn, is gifting all our families with a book entitled Do Something Beautiful for God - The Essential Teachings of Mother Teresa. Take some time over the next few weeks to teach your family about Saint Mother Teresa, share her essential teachings, learn to live, love, and pray the way she did, and do something beautiful for God. What a great opportunity to embrace the season of Advent and spread goodness throughout our school community.
Our second trimester begins on Thursday, December 3, and ends on March 11. Based on the number of student returning, as well as those transitioning to remote learning, we continue to have about 20% of our students as remote learners. Parents of remote learners are asked to take time and review with your child/ren the remote learning guidelines which were given out to all remote learning students. If you did not receive a copy of them, please contact the school office and we will send them to you. Remote learning school hours are from 8:15 A.M. -2:35 P.M. the same as students who are attending school in-person. If your child is not present at 8:15 A.M. they will be marked absent.
With the winter season quickly approaching, our thoughts turn to snow days. We have a number of inclement weather days built into our school calendar so we will be taking at least 2 snow days this winter. Snow days are a childhood tradition and are meant to be a day children can sleep in and then go outside to play in the snow. It’s a tradition I do not want to take away from our students in this COVID-19 year. Should we have a more severe winter and exceed our 2 snow days, all students and teachers will switch to remote learning. You will be notified before each snowstorm our plan for the day.
Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care. May this season of Advent remind you of the Hope, Joy, Love and Peace found in Christ. Be well and stay safe.

God Bless,
Mrs. Tiezzi

Please read the attached updated Connecticut travel advisory. If you
and/or your family have traveled to any of these states and have
stayed for more then 24 hours you will need to get a COVID test
within 72 hours upon arriving back in Connecticut. Your children can
not return to school until they present a negative COVID test or
after a quarantine of 14 days.
Please inform the office of any travel plans in the coming months. We appreciate your vigilance on this matter as we continue to work to keep our Saint Rita School community safe and healthy.
Thank you to everyone for keeping your children home when they are not feeling well and keeping us informed of any illnesses. With your cooperation we will continue to keep our school community safe.

Just a few reminders:

- If your child is home sick for more then 24 hours we will need a doctors note in order for them to return to school.

- This year with COVID-19 continuing to be active the State Department of Public Health is encouraging everyone to receive an Influenza Vaccination by the end of October. The vaccinations are now readily available. Once your child receives the vaccine, please send proof into school for the nurse to document.

- If your child is home sick and the doctor recommends a COVID test please do not get a rapid test. We will only be accepting the PCR test in order to return to school.

- many of us suffer from seasonal allergies and may experience symptoms similar to COVID-19.

Symptoms more common of seasonal allergies and not COVID-19 are itchy or watery eyes and sneezing.

Symptoms more common if COVID-19 are fever and chills, muscle and body aches, new loss of taste or smell, nausea or vomiting and Diarrhea.

If you obtain positive results after school hours, please email Mrs. Tiezzi (ptiezzi.stritaschool@gmail.com) and the nurse (lpalma.stritaschool@gmail.com)

When in doubt call your pediatrician.
