From The Pastor's Desk:
Dear Members of Lord of Life,
By now a very sad letter should have arrived in your home mailbox, announcing my last day at Lord of Life on Sunday, January 7th.
If this were a Christmas present, it would have been an awful one. But I am coming to see this shift as an Advent present for you and for me… Like Mary and Joseph were not seeking to have a baby so soon, this is not something we would have hoped for. It is a new future breaking into our shared life. A baby changes everything; a changing pastorate may feel to you like just such a disruption. There is nothing small or easy about the Christmas story - and yet it is good news.
I am not hurrying off to another congregation; rather I am waiting, seeing what God will do, beginning with training this spring as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Perhaps someday I will return to full-time ministry; for now I simply trust God to be leading me as I prepare for bi-vocational ministry, continuing in the Church’s mission of changing and saving lives.
For you, a journey begins, not to Bethlehem, but to discovering again Emmanuel, how God is with you. God will uphold you and love you.
Peace,
Pastor Wendolyn
PS: My Facebook profile, Wen Trozzo, will be going away soon; please do not feel singled out or feel "unfriended;" I set up that profile specifically for these years and it is time to retire it.

Bake Sale To Benefit New Scholarship Ministry
Saturday and Sunday
December 16th And 17th
We will be having a bake sale on Saturday, December 16th and Sunday, December 17th. Bakers are needed!!! Can you help? If so, please sign up on the sheet located in the Narthex or contact Barbara Wagner. All proceeds will go to our new ministry, a scholarship fund. (See the description of the scholarship below.) If you aren't able to bake, please come and purchase some wonderful baked goods.
The Lord of Life Scholarship Fund
We were recently granted a check in the amount of $2,000 from the New Jersey Synod to be used toward a new ministry. Bill Reich and several other members attended a seminar last spring, and, because of their presence and interest, the Synod offered Lord of Life an opportunity to apply for a monetary grant that would be applied to a new ministry at our church. Several ideas were presented to Council with the scholarship being the one chosen. This scholarship will be for college students who are members of Lord of Life. They have certain requirements to meet, such as attending church regularly, being involved in church activities over the past few years, such as helping at VBS, ushers, greeters, choir, etc. More information will be shared with families who have students in high school and college in the very near future. For more information please contact Barbara Wagner.

Nominations For
Church Council
Are Now Open
Help Wanted! The nominating committee, in accordance with the church Bylaws, is now seeking volunteers willing to accept nominations for various Council positions which include officers and ministry liaison leads. These are 2 year term positions, but occasionally people may leave early due to personal reasons.
What does Council do? Well there would not be a church without Council lay leadership, which attends to both the ministry and business needs of the church along with our Pastor, so these are very important positions to fill. Meetings are once a month, although there is usually some required tasks or actions between the meetings.
If you are interested in serving on Council or need more information, please speak to any of the following nominating committee members: Ed Hourihan, Linda Baechler, or Nancy DiYenno.
Please prayerfully consider what time/talent you can provide to this critical area of church leadership.

Thanksgiving Meals Delivered
Thank You's Received
A Message From Church Council Member Jim Ernst:
I delivered all the donated Thanksgiving food items to the Christian Caring Center on Monday, November 13th. There were 4 volunteers to unload the car there. Upon opening the trunk lid and rear doors, these volunteers were so taken back with all the food. I overheard one of the men saying,"Wow, what a blessing! Now everyone will have a Happy Thanksgiving.” The supervisor, Gina, was saying to me how Lord of Life is so generous with food donations and clothing at the thrift store. She thankfully said, "God bless them." The volunteers repeated that also, several times. I left with such a good feeling that our church members did so well with providing a filling Thanksgiving dinner for the less fortunate.

Jobs are easy – putting meat and cheese on a roll, placing sandwiches in a baggie, counting the sandwiches, and putting them in a grocery bag. Everyone gets a small, easy task and a lot gets done quickly while we share some time together. We keep everyone safe by wearing gloves and masks, spacing ourselves, and venting the room. All are invited to join us! If you have any questions, please contact Janell Reich.

LifeLines Introduction Bible Verse For December 2023:
If you were puzzeled by this month's introduction Bible verse, here is the explanation. While listening to a morning oldies radio station a few weeks ago, on November 7th, it was announced that the oldest living US Astronaut, Frank Borman, had died at the age of 95. The DJ also mentioned that he was part of the crew of Apollo 8, which was the first space capsule to reach the moon and go into orbit around the moon. That brought back memories of the broadcast the crew made at 9:30 PM (EST) on Christmas Eve 1968. I was at our family Christmas gathering in Weehawken, and all of us were anxious to hear the broadcast before we left to attend the candlelight church service a block away at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Union City. I wondered what the crew was going to say. I never thought it would be what it was. It made a lasting impression. (Even on a 21 year old college senior!) Many of you remember that night. God was with the astronauts on that Christmas Eve, and may God be with all of you as well.
