On December 13 at 2 p.m., the Dayspring Celebration Chorale will perform a special concert of Christmas favorites. “A Family Christmas” offers fun for young and old as we sing familiar carols, culminating in a sing-along. The program features The Many Moods of Christmas, Suite 3 (“What Child is This?” “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing,” “Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella,” and “Angels We Have Heard on High”) and beloved Christmas music by John Rutter, Morten Lauridsen, Amy Grant, and many others. Organized Solidarity will be selling homemade tortillas on Saturday, December 14th to support families in our community who have been impacted by immigration reform. We will have only 30 dozen available, so be sure to get yours after service! Every purchase helps us extend compassion, dignity, and support where it’s needed most.

Grassroots efforts to support these families with food donations are ongoing. If you would like to help, look for the Organized Solidarity table this 2nd Sunday where you can bring your food donations and learn more about other actions you can take.

VIP is holding a Talent Showcase on December 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Dayspring Arcadia. Do you have a musical talent you’d like to share with a warm, supportive audience? Or would you like to volunteer behind the scenes? Most of all, we encourage everyone to simply come, bring friends, and enjoy an uplifting afternoon. Dayspring Arcadia is a beautiful venue, and this gathering is a meaningful way to connect with VIP congregations and community leaders from across the Valley. New, unwrapped toys for the HopeKids Toy Drive can be delivered to the box in the narthex by this Sunday, December 14, and will be delivered to Arizona families who have a child battling a life-threatening medical condition and are in financial need as a result.

The Angel Tree gifts are also due this Sunday, December 14. Please return your wrapped gifts with the angel tags attached.

Dayspring will once again be filled with beautiful flowers on Christmas Eve. Each plant is given as a memorial to, or in honor of, a special loved one or friend. In addition, gifts may also be made to UMOM’s Shelter for the Homeless in lieu of a plant. Both of these gifts will be listed in our Christmas bulletins, projected before services on Christmas Eve, and online. Orders must be received by noon on Wednesday, December 17. Our upcoming children’s musical, Arrest These Merry Gentlemen, will be performed during the 10:00 service on December 21, and excitement is already building in our community!

“Arrest These Merry Gentlemen” is a joyful, playful take on the Christmas story — a “caper” set in Bethlehem where Sergeant Joe Sabbath, the town’s “peace officer,” tries to keep things quiet… until a band of shepherds arrives full of wild stories of angels, a mysterious baby, and a celebration that changes the world.

Get ready for laughs, music, and a whole lot of Christmas spirit on December 21!

Feeling the holiday overwhelm? You’re not alone. December can be magical—but also a lot. If you’re carrying stress, grief, or just feeling worn out, we invite you to our Longest Night Service—a calming, candlelit space to breathe, rest, and simply be.

With soft music, gentle prayer, and room for quiet reflection, this service offers peace in the middle of a busy season. You don’t have to be “okay” to come. Just come as you are and find a moment of light in the longest night. The service will be in the Sanctuary on December 21 at 4:00 p.m.

Yesterday, Homeland Security agents temporarily and without permission used the Dayspring parking lot as a staging area for nearby operations. Tempe Police worked with Dayspring staff to move the agents along and to inform them that they were not welcome on church property.
