Travel Safety

Whether traveling home, going to see relatives, or heading abroad, over the next few weeks many students, faculty, and staff will take to the roads and the air. Before departing, it is important to plan ahead in case of travel emergencies.
For those traveling by car, make sure you have checked the weather forecast. Let a contact at home or at your destination know your route, when you plan to depart, and when you should arrive at your destination. Pack an emergency kit with enough supplies for everyone in the vehicle. Upon arrival, if your contact is back home, be sure to inform him/her that you have arrived at your destination.
For those traveling by plane, check for travel advisories before you depart. Review the TSA Travel Checklist. Pack a small emergency kit to bring with you. Consider reviewing the Traveling Abroad Safely resources on the Illinois School and Campus Safety Resource Center website. Let a contact at home or at your destination know your flight number, from where and when you should depart, and when and where you should arrive. Upon arrival, if your contact is back home, be sure to inform him/her that you have arrived at your destination.
