The Canadian World Juniors Training Camp is not the only exciting event gracing the Sixteen Mile Creek Sports Complex. From May 9-19 2024, the facility will play host to the Centennial Cup, a premier hockey tournament that promises thrilling competition and high-stakes action. Teams from across the nation will converge on Oakville, transforming the complex into a hub of excitement and athletic prowess.

The Mayor and Council's Levee is an occasion to connect with neighbours, community leaders, and local officials in a casual and friendly atmosphere. This event is a reflection of Oakville's commitment to fostering unity and a strong sense of community.

Mayor Burton welcomes Therapeutic Collective Oakville

The team at the Therapeutic Collective Oakville (TCO) held their grand opening and were delighted to host Mayor Burton, who participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony, alongside TCO founder Jodi Rouah, MSW, RSW.

The TCO opened their doors, at 2904 South Sheridan Way, in August of this year after a rigorous revamp which transformed the space into a tranquil, modern collection of nine unique therapeutic offices, plus waiting room where clients can relax pre or post session with a hot coffee or tea.

Jodi has created a post-pandemic therapeutic hub with a variety of therapists, offering an array of specialized supportive services to individuals, kids, teens, couples, and families from Oakville and the surrounding communities.

Connection is important and what inspired the creation of the TCO. The space was born in response to growing requests, from both clients and colleagues, who were longing to make in-person connections. Founder Jodi decided to create the space that people were seeking and to help support a smooth shift back to in-person therapy options in the Oakville area.

Community is important to the TCO team, as is interprofessional collaboration and connection The TCO is more than just a workspace; it's a community built on the principles of collaboration, support, and growth, with a mission to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere where therapists and clients alike can flourish.

A TMP is more than just a roadmap; it's a visionary document that outlines Oakville's transportation goals for the long term. It encompasses policies, programs, guidelines, and infrastructure enhancements, fostering safe, convenient, and efficient mobility for both people and goods.

Oakville's 2018 TMP prioritizes all modes of transportation, emphasizing public transit, walking, cycling, and ride-sharing. It strategically integrates roadway improvements, ensuring a holistic approach to community mobility.

Ontario Taking Action to Support Municipal Partners in Building More Homes and Protecting Taxpayers

The Ontario Government announced a series of measures aimed at supporting its municipal partners, including the town of Oakville, in an effort to build 1.5 million homes by 2031. This plan is part of a broader initiative to ensure good service delivery while managing taxpayer costs effectively. The announcement detailed several key actions:

Legislation for Peel Region: The government plans to introduce legislation to recalibrate the Peel Region Transition Board's focus. Instead of dissolving the region, the board will aim to enhance local government efficiency and improve services such as policing, paramedics, and public health.
Review of Minister's Zoning Orders: The government is reviewing and potentially adjusting zoning orders based on the progress of projects and their ability to address water and wastewater servicing needs. This includes the possibility of revoking or amending certain orders.
Development-Related Charges: Guidelines will be provided for exemptions on development-related charges for attainable housing. This is intended to assist municipal budget planning and to encourage faster home building.
Attainable Housing Program: The government is developing a program to promote homeownership through innovative construction techniques. It will focus on building attainable homes on government and municipal lands.
Termination of Municipal Audits: Financial audits of several municipalities will be discontinued. Consultations will focus on the impacts of the More Homes Built Faster Act and the capacity of municipalities to fund infrastructure for new housing.
