Pick Up and Drop Off Safety Concerns

Please read the following reminders about pick up and drop off below. In our second month of school. Our children's safety in this process depends on everyone's efforts to achieve a smooth pick up and drop off.
  • Slow down
  • Be aware of school busses that may be picking up/dropping off kids from our neighborhood from other schools. Please follow all appropriate guidelines (ie: MN law requires drivers to stop least 20 feet from a school bus that is displaying its flashing lights and stop arm. This applies to drivers behind and approaching from the opposite direction).
  • Please do not park in the carpool lane. If you need to exit your car to pick up your child, please park elsewhere. Parked cars are confusing to other drivers, hold up general traffic, and contribute to a less organized and less safe pick up procedure.
  • Remember to pull forward
If grandparents or other adults are picking up your child/ren, please share this information with them as well so that ALL adults picking up and dropping off are aware of our procedures.

Awards Ceremony ZfA Kreativ-Wettbewerb

Last Friday, December 1st, 2017 the students of the 8th grade and Frau Simon had an award ceremony for their contributions to the yearly happening ZfA Kreativ-Wettbewerb (Creativity Competition). All the former 7th graders participated last spring and could either write a story or produce a short video clip around the topic "Deutsch - Vielfalt und Veränderung" (German - Diversity and Change). Three teams (Grace Philippon, Sylvia Metcalfe, Anders Vevang and Lily Hamacher; Izzy Lauer, Abby Wick and Camryn Nagel; Aislin Hammel & Bea Clark (not in the picture) achieved the 3rd place in the group competition and were rewarded with gift cards from amazon with $25-50 per student. Brr...It's Cold Outside!

Winter has arrived! Each student must have these 5 (five) items to enjoy warm outdoor play.
  1. Boots
  2. Snowpants
  3. Jacket
  4. Hat
  5. Gloves/mittens
All students go outside (barring health concerns) for recess. We use the NWS chart in the link below to determine whether students are outside or inside for recess. Feel free to read our  Cold Weather Recess, Cancellation Policy, including tips for staying warm outdoors.

Please make sure your student has these items so they can stay warm and dry outside.
Dirndl Dienstag Tuesday, December 19

Do you have a  Dirndl  or other  Tracht  hanging around in your closet? Put it to good use on Tuesday, December 19th, for Dirndl Dienstag! If you don't have a Dirndl or other Tracht, feel free to wear something else that represents Germany/Austria/Switzerland - a t-shirt, your favorite German/Austrian/Swiss soccer jersey, or get creative in your outfit with the flag colors (red/white or black/red/gold).
FireBears Robotics Visit

Roseville Area High School's FireBears robotics team visited TCGIS on December 11th. Several FireBears team members, including alumni Erik, Robert, and Lexie Rauer, presented to a group of TCGIS middle-schoolers. They explained the robot's design, demonstrated how the robot worked, and even let students drive the robot with the joystick around room 100! The robot they showed us weighs close to 120 pounds and can climb a rope.

We wish the FireBears luck on this season's challenge and are grateful for their visit!
