See Something, Say Something® Posters for Schools and Campuses

Research has shown that school shooters don't just "snap." They usually plan attacks for weeks, if not months, and there are often signs that the person is on a pathway towards violence. Given the possibility of averting school violence or self-injury, it is paramount that we engage in practices that promote safety and well being, including encouraging individuals to tell someone if something appears suspicious or concerning. To help promote reporting in your schools and on your campuses, consider reviewing and displaying these educational See Something, Say Something® Posters.

Upcoming Session of Campus Threat Assessment and Management January 18-19 in Harrisburg

There's still time to register for the Campus Threat Assessment and Management class January 18-19, 2024, in Harrisburg, IL. This two-day workshop Gene Deisinger, Ph.D will help participants to better understand the dynamics of targeted violence and to develop and enhance strategies for early identification, assessment, and intervention with concerning situations. Although the training is catered towards higher ed, it is still a valuable resource on behavioral threat assessment for K-12 schools and districts.

Upcoming Session of Preventing Targeted Violence Through Leakage and Cyber Investigations January 11-12 in Oglesby

There's still time to register for the Preventing Targeted Violence Through Leakage and Cyber Investigations class on January 11-12, 2024, in Oglesby, IL. Class objectives include:

• Why it is important NOT to disregard information given to LEO or school officials.
• What the term "Leakage" means and how we can interpret the information.
• Learn free and open source online investigative tools into social networks and App generated phone numbers.
• Learn to identify and collect cyber evidence to identify suspects.
• Learn the three-step process in investigating internet crimes.
• Learn the importance of Preservation, Exigent Circumstances, and Search Warrants.
• Learn how to obtain IP's, screen names, screen captures, and email headers.
• State laws: Terrorist Threat, Falsely Making a Terrorist Threat, Swatting, and Causing a Catastrophe.
• Suspect search warrant, arrest, interrogation, and mental health evaluation.
• Examine a successful cyber-crime case study investigation from start to finish.

Upcoming Session of Campus Threat Assessment and Management Feb. 29-March 1st in Normal

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program is pleased to announce the class Campus Threat Assessment and Management will be held Feb. 29-March 1, 2024, in Normal, IL. This two-day workshop for institutions of higher education featuring Gene Deisinger, Ph.D will help participants to better understand the dynamics of targeted violence and to develop and enhance strategies for early identification, assessment, and intervention with concerning situations.

Will and DuPage County ROEs to Host School Safety Summit on Jan. 19th

The Will County Regional Office of Education, Professional Development Alliance (representing the Will ROE and the Grundy/Kendall ROE), along with support from the DuPage County Regional Office of Education and NISSA are hosting the School Safety Summit 2024 - Preparedness to Prevention on Jan. 19, 2024, in Joliet, IL. The summit includes keynote speaker Dr. Peter Langman, author of Why Kids Kill: Inside the Minds of School Shooters, and several afternoon breakout sessions. The summit is free and includes, coffee, continental breakfast, lunch, Dr. Langman's book, and educators can earn professional development hours. For more information, click here.
