Garden Trivia Answer

White. Both American mistletoe (Phoradendron leucarpum) and European mistletoe (Viscum album) have white fruit. But if you thought they were red, don’t worry, you are not alone. The fruit of this semi-parasitic, evergreen plant is poisonous. Often, suppliers will replace the berries with fake ones so the fruit, which easily falls off indoors, won’t become an issue for kids or pets. These berry dupes are often red….but why? Who knows! It may be because we expect it to be red like holly. Or maybe it's just because the company only has fake berries in red, so that is what they use! Learn more in this article: Mistletoe and Holly During the Holidays.
