“Blue” Christmas Service
Monday, December 20th
2:00 PM And 7:00 PM
When ‘joy’ is hard to find…
and it doesn’t feel like the ‘most wonderful time of the year’…
Many people assume that this season of red and green means that grief, sorrow, loneliness, anxiety, & depression disappear,
but no sugar-coating takes that pain away. Job loss, divorce, chronic disease, or other challenges cause us to ache. We need God more than ever.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
Come and gather in a worship service that seeks the deeper hope and joy that God offers in the midst of hurt or hopelessness. In the darkness of the ‘Longest Night’ of the year, we will light candles, gather in prayer, and ask God to come and be with us.
All are welcome; please invite those in your circle who may need a healing time like this.
If you need babysitting (free) to be provided, please RSVP and it will be arranged. Email Pastor Wendolyn at: pastor@lordlife.us

From The Pastor's Desk:
In December I often find myself seeing the drastic comparisons between the words that the world uses and those words used by the Church. “Pageant,” for instance, is usually a contest for the prettiest person, or a show that is over-the-top with pageantry. But for us, it’s little children telling us a story about a baby in a barn. “Save” usually means a way to spend more money, but for us it’s God’s defining action. “Presents” seem to be the main focus, when for us “Presence” is all we can ask for or imagine. Lights and ornaments compete to catch our eyes, when our favorite moment of light is often a quiet candlelit hymn, and we realize that we are the ornaments that will point others toward the truth and joy of Christmas.
As these words take on surprising meaning through worshipping our newborn King, may this season bring you surprises that give you delight or soothe your spirit as you see God at work in the Word-Made-Flesh, Emmanuel, God-With-Us.
Awaiting Christ,
Pastor Wendolyn

Pastor Delivering The Children's Message on Sunday, December 5th
|
|
Resuming:
Tuesday January 4th, At 7:00 PM
And
Wednesday, January 5th, at 11:00 AM
Both evening and daytime Bible Study will be held each week in Fellowship Hall. We will be using Breaking the Code, Revised Edition by Bruce Metzger for these sessions. This is a 6 week study using a DVD.
The Book of Revelation contains passages of great beauty and comfort, as well as passages that strike the casual reader as bizarre, bewildering, and sometimes frightening. Breaking the Code, Revised Edition provides a trustworthy guide to the rich symbolism of this important biblical book. Noted biblical scholar Bruce M. Metzger presents the fruits of solid scholarship in a non-academic style. This revised edition includes updates based on current biblical research, as well as additional teaching from author and respected New Testament scholar David deSilva.
This link below has videos with information about the study.

Book Club
Tuesday, January 18th, 1:00 PM
We will be discussing The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson at our January 18th meeting. There are 6 copies in the library, but it is a popular book. Maybe you want to request it now so that you have it by January. Here is a description:
In 1936, tucked deep into the woods of Troublesome Creek, KY, lives blue-skinned 19-year-old Cussy Carter, the last living female of the rare Blue People ancestry. The lonely young Appalachian woman joins the historical Pack Horse Library Project of Kentucky and becomes a librarian, riding across slippery creek beds and up treacherous mountains on her faithful mule to deliver books and other reading material to the impoverished hill people of Eastern Kentucky. Along her dangerous route, Cussy, known to the mountain folk as Bluet, confronts those suspicious of her damselfly-blue skin and the government's new book program. She befriends hardscrabble and complex fellow Kentuckians, and is fiercely determined to bring comfort and joy, instill literacy, and give to those who have nothing, a bookly respite, a fleeting retreat to faraway lands.

Evangelical Lutheran Church

Tornado Relief
|
|
On the night of December 10th, a devastating outbreak of more than 30 tornadoes swept through six states. Kentucky was impacted the most, with more than 70 people reported dead. Homes and businesses were destroyed, including a candle factory in Mayfield, Ky. with persons still inside. More than 330,000 people were left without electricity across multiple states.
ELCA Lutheran Disaster Response is engaging with partners in the affected areas, including the Indiana-Kentucky Synod, to respond to immediate needs. Given the initial damage assessments, recovery will likely take years, and Lutheran Disaster Response is prepared to accompany survivors until the response is complete.
If you would like to contribute a monetary gift to the relief effort, you can make a contribution in two ways. You can donate electronically to Lutheran Disaster Response by using the link below:
Or you can donate to Lord Of Life with a memo on your check and church envelope designating "Tornado Relief." Your contribution envelope can be placed in the offering plate during the service or mailed to Lord Of Life.

LifeLines Ending Song:
As we transition from Advent to Christmas, there is a hymn that is listed in our ELW as an Advent song, but it is one that we often sing during our Christmas Eve services to celebrate our Savior's birth. Here is hymn # 267. The Editors wish you a Blessed and Merry Christmas!

"...and wonders of His love, and wonders of His love, and wonders, wonders of His love!"
Verse 4, ELW Hymn #267
