We are so excited, learning about the birth of Jesus, wrapping presents, wearing lots of RED, and getting ready for Christmas. Christmas at Preschool is the most fun season of all!

SHARE THE WARMTH WITH HERITAGE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

The Mission Team is sponsoring a collection of new adult-sized hats, gloves, and scarves for Heritage High School students beginning November 19 and continuing to January 18. Temperatures will soon be dropping! Your donation can make sure a student arrives at school warm and ready to learn! Take advantage of holiday sales and place your items in the “Share the Warmth” display bin in the Narthex. Please do not wrap donated items. If you would like to contribute, there is a link and a QR Code available for your convenience.

If you have any questions, please contact Becky Neilans at 434-851-4003.

Welcome Center on Sunday Mornings!

We are seeking volunteers to help with our Sunday morning hospitality. On Sunday mornings, snacks, coffee, and water are available in the Welcome Center before each service. Pre-packaged snacks are readily available and should be supplemented with fresh items you can easily pick up at your local grocery store. Folks who sign up need to have the Welcome Center ready at 8:45 and clean up after the worship service.More volunteers are needed to buy and put out the snacks on Sunday mornings, make the coffee, and clean up after the worship service (typically takes 15 minutes). More specific directions will be posted in the hospitality kitchen off the narthex. If you can help with hospitality this way, please click the link HERE. Thank you!

You Can Give to Heritage UMC (a Qualified Charity) to satisfy your Required Minimum Distribution!

For 2025, the Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) limit is $108,000 per person, and custodians are required to report QCDs separately using Code Y on Form 1099-R. Individuals aged 70½ or older can use a QCD to fulfill their IRA Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) while excluding the distribution from income.

2025 QCD limits and rules

  • Annual limit: The maximum QCD an individual can make is $108,000.
  • Married couples: Both spouses, if they qualify, can each make a QCD of up to $108,000.
  • Age requirement: You must be age 70½ or older at the time of the distribution.
  • Fulfillment of RMD: A QCD can be used to satisfy your IRA Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for the year.
  • Standard deduction: You can use a QCD even if you do not itemize deductions. The amount distributed is excluded from income, which is often more beneficial than an itemized deduction.
  • Reporting requirements: For 2025 tax filings, custodians must report QCDs separately using Code Y in Box 7 of Form 1099-R to help with compliance.

Key takeaways

  • Prioritize QCDs: It is generally more tax-efficient to fulfill your RMD with a QCD if possible, as the amount is not taxed.
  • Stay organized: Even with the new reporting codes, it is still the taxpayer's responsibility to ensure all QCD requirements are met. Keep all supporting documents, such as acknowledgments from the charity and custodian records.
  • Timing is crucial: A QCD for 2025 must be completed by December 31, 2025
