Dearest Northminster family,

As our Advent journey through darkness and light continues, may you feel God's presence and peace growing ever stronger within and surrounding you.  May you be ever mindful of those who know darkness to be oppressive, stressful, without hope or joy.  May we remind one another of God's amazing and abundant love and seek to live out that love with our words, our thoughts, our actions, our every breath.  Please consider joining us, together with our siblings in Christ from St. Luke's Lutheran and Mt. Olive Lutheran churches on Friday evening, December 21st for the Blessing of the Longest Night at 5:30pm.  The service is a sacred time set aside for those who may be experiencing grief or carrying heavy hearts in this Advent and Christmas season.  In addition to our Sunday morning worship celebrating the fourth Sunday of Advent, we will move from Advent anticipation to Christmas joy on Monday evening. Please join us for Christmas Eve fellowship at 5:00pm, with cider and snacks.  You are welcome to bring a sweet or savory snack to share.  Christmas Eve worship will begin at 6:00pm with a service of lessons, carols and reflection.  Emmanuel, God with us, grant you peace and tangible presence, in darkness and in light, evermore.

Peace be with you,
Jill

REMINDER!
We will have choir practice as usual from 7:15 to 8:15 this Wednesday. There will not be handbell practice.

Please join us on Monday, December 24th as we celebrate Christmas Eve.  We will share in fellowship with cookies and cider in our fellowship hall at 5:00pm before joining together in Christmas Eve worship at 6:00pm in our sanctuary.  Please consider bringing some cookies or savory snacks to share for our fellowship time!  All are welcome!

The personnel committee is now accepting contributions for our staff gifts through Sunday, December 23rd. Please see Josh Ring, Amy Rudd, Amy Anderson, Mary Ann Hopkins, John Lundeen or any of the Elders.

The church office will be closed December 24-January 1.  We will worship together in our sanctuary at 10:00am on Sunday, December 30.  If you have a pastoral need, please contact Reverend Isola on her cell phone, which can be found in the church directory.

Sabbath Soup
Please consider volunteering for Sabbath Soup Kitchen at First Presbyterian Church Hickory on January 13. Help is needed 9:00-11:00 for meal preparation and/or 12:00-2:30 for serving, mingling and cleaning-up. Please volunteer as you feel led, an hour or two or the whole time! (First Pres has their service at 11:00 in the Fellowship Hall so we don't like to enter or leave during that time if possible.) You can sign up to help here.

If you have questions or would like to help please contact Anjanette Lee at aleecatz3@icloud.com or 828-485-7241.

Help Needed!
We need volunteers to change the church road sign in 2019. No experience or age limitations...just a desire to contribute to the life of your church.   If you are looking for an opportunity to serve without having to tie up a lot of time, please contact Rachel in the church office. Thanks for your help!

The session is forming an adhoc work committee to brainstorm and research options for utilizing our education building.  If you have an interest in serving on this committee, please contact Pastor Jill.  This committee will begin its work in early January (after the holidays).
