St. Peter's Red Bluff - A new sign and old sounds for the holiday season
Last Tuesday, St.Peter's hosted the Red Bluff High School victorian carolers for an evening of song and desserts. They also recently installed a new sign welcoming all to their historic church.

Prayer Shawl Ministry at St. James Lincoln wraps those in need with love
Left to right: Mari Haisten, Jean Derum, David Haisten, Jacqueline McDermott. Mari and Del Armstrong, (not pictured) are the two remaining members of the prayer shawl ministry at St. James. As a result of the shawl wrapping they may have several new members interested in joining the ministry! |
Last Sunday morning after coffee hour, members of St. James' congregation wrapped up 20 hand-knitted prayer shawls that will be delivered to residents of Gladding Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care residents who very rarely have visitors or family members visit at the holidays.
Our knitters have agreed this is a ministry they love and are so happy knowing that the shawls are going to those who will appreciate them.

Good Shepherd, Cloverdale Installs New Prayer Box

| |
A new prayer box was recently installed in front of Good Shepherd in Cloverdale. The initial idea for a public prayer board at the church came about many years ago as a way to reach out to the community. Former Senior Warden, Gene Marcinkowski installed and maintained the original prayer board. However, with rainy winters and hot sun throughout the year, it became a challenge to keep the prayer board in “working order”.
The concept for the new prayer box was based on one at a church in Texas. It involved converting a metal mailbox into a prayer box. The design keeps the supplies and prayers protected from the elements. The attractive decorated metal box has a cubby hole for paper and pens and a slot to deposit the prayers. The prayers are read along with the Prayers of the People each Sunday.

Band of Angels Takes off in Auburn
The Band of Angels at a recent performance at an assisted-living facility in Auburn.
A little over a year ago, St. Luke's started a fellowship ministry called The Band of Angels. We meet on the 1st, 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month to sing Christian hymns, gospels and contemporary music. and do international folk dancing. We offer coffee/tea and breakfast treats at every gathering. It is a great place for people to share fellowship by catching up with parish friends and meeting new people from the greater community of Auburn. We welcome anyone into the ministry: no audition is required, there is no need to read music or have any prior experience singing with a group or dancing. We welcome anyone to join, from St. Luke's and the larger community that we serve. This ministry has been a great success for St. Luke's in numerous ways, including a benefit concert this summer to raise funds for two of St. Luke's outreach partners, The Gathering Inn and The Auburn Interfaith Food Closet (which started in the basement of St. Luke's many years ago)

Featured Dreams from the 2023 Bishop's Book of Dreams:
Episcopal Community Services (Goal: $3,500)
The Mission of Episcopal Community Services of Northern California (ECS) is "Serving Christ by Serving others." ECS's goal is to support, empower, and equip congregations that transform communities for Christ. 100% of appeal funds will be distributed within the diocese for social justice and humanitarian projects, and will go toward grants for congregations striving to transform their communities and bring the love of Christ into their neighborhoods. Episcopal Foundation of Northern California (Goal: $25,000)
The Foundation oversees a cluster of investment funds that have been established by bequests and donations from individuals for the benefit of their parishes and the Foundation, and administers a number of grant programs, through which we are able to make much needed gifts of funds to organizations in our Diocese. Appeal funds will help support our grant programs. Read more...
FaithWorks Community Coalition (Goal: $10,000)
FaithWorks Community Coalition has been operating non-conventional transitional and permanent housing programs for unhoused families and veterans since 2006. FaithWorks provides shelter, case management, hands on education, spiritual support, evidence-based curriculum, food pantry, utility assistance, clothing and other supports critical to obtaining stability to help pave the way for lasting change. Appeal funds will go towards the purchase of beds, bedding (sheets, pillows, comforters), dressers and other items that are challenging to gather when a new homeless family or veteran is on their way into their programs. Additionally, funds will help keep the food, hygiene and children's pantries stocked and ready to assist people experiencing a challenging time. Read more...
