The season of "wabi-sabi" is upon us. For those of you who have never heard this expression, it refers to the Japanese aesthetic of "the beauty of imperfection". What a cultural shift it would be to celebrate a sense of wholeness and beauty in the imperfect. What a contrast to striving for perfection in ourselves and others. How amazingly mindful and human! How might we, collectively, embrace this idea of beauty in the tarnished patina of the moment...honoring the imperfection that is, in fact, perfect? 

I would love to hear your thoughts on the concept of wabi-sabi and how you plan on putting it into action as you celebrate this season.

2016/2017 Schedule

Meditation Maintenance Sessions
are a great way to give yourself a monthly self-care "tune-up" by joining with fellow meditators to discuss insights and challenges of your practice.

Our general schedule is the 2nd Wednesday (evening) and 2nd Friday (afternoon) of each month.

You are welcome to attend each month or simply on an occasional basis. You will find a supportive and welcoming respite in the midst of your busyness. 

Winter Schedule

Evening sessions meet 7-9 PM

Both evening and daytime sessions are held at Stress Resources' office (97 Lowell Rd, Concord, MA).

Mindfulness Meditation Retreat
Saturday, December 10 

Need a booster shot of mindfulness to combat holiday stress?  Join Pam Ressler and fellow meditators for a day long mindfulness meditation retreat on Saturday, December 10. The retreat day will begin at 9:00 am and end at 2:00 pm and will be held at the First Parish Church located in beautiful, historic Concord, MA.  This special day will be a structured retreat, with extended times of silent meditation, walking meditation, reflection, and tea.  Some background in mindfulness meditation (either MBSR or similar training) is helpful, however all are welcome.

In the tradition of day long Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction retreats, we will spend the day in silence with attention on cultivating mindfulness. We will be using a lovely, large room (the chapel), at First Parish which is a sunny,open space with a separate entrance that leads to a terrace and outdoor walking labyrinth.

Format for the day:

9:00 am arrival and introductions
9:30-10:00 am sitting meditation (or body scan)
10:00-10:30 am walking meditation (or yoga)
10:30-11:00 sitting meditation
11:00-11:30 walking meditation
11:30-12:30 pm silent lunch/rest
12:30-1:00pm metta meditation (loving kindness)
1:00-1:45 pm reflections/tea
1:45-2:00 pm close

What to bring:
  • bag lunch/drink/water
  • meditation cushion or bench (if you use one, chairs will be available)
  • yoga mat or blanket
  • water bottle
  • layered comfortable clothing
  • journal or sketch pad, if desired

Mindful Leadership
An interesting article in the latest edition of Harvard Business Review  suggests that mindfulness training strengthens three key qualities for successful leadership in the 21st century: resilience, the capacity for collaboration and the ability to navigate and lead in complex situations. The authors note that the most positive results were found in those leaders who continued to practice mindfulness skills daily for at least 10 minutes.

Registration for Stress Resources' popular group Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR) is now underway for the Winter session. Classes begin the week of January 23. Choose from evening or daytime options.

Learn from one of the most experienced and skilled mindfulness instructors in the area in a relaxed, beautiful setting in historic Concord, MA. Class size is limited to 16 students. All classes are taught by Pam Ressler, founder of Stress Resources and co-director of the first graduate course in mindfulness taught at Tufts University School of Medicine.
