LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

It's hard to believe that two years have passed in my presidency! It has been an honor and a privilege to lead our board and members in accomplishing DMAHL's mission. I want to personally thank my fellow Executive Committee members, Albert Gonzalez, Vice President; Frank Valtierra, Treasurer; and Secretary, Sara Quintanilla (2016) and Patty Ramirez (2017), as they have been instrumental in leading the organization, planning strategically and ensuring that goals are met.

I am grateful that we have been able to make great things happen because of our amazing board and committee chairs who are committed and passionate about the mission, and because of the continued support and dedication of our general membership. I especially honor and thank our wonderful sponsors and business partners without whom we could not accomplish the goals.

The election of DMAHL's Officers for 2018 will be held January 27, 2018, at our board meeting which will be held at the Meadows Conference Center. I will be passing the torch to our new president and continuing to serve DMAHL as a board member.   Next year we will be celebrating DMAHL's tenth anniversary of bringing our community's history and stories to you through our photo, artifact and oral history collections; exhibits; speaker series; presentations, tributes and educational programs. DMAHL is still in its infancy as compared to other historical groups. We have grown rapidly in the past ten years, and we will continue to uphold our mission, honor our ancestors by telling their stories, and educate our descendants and the public.

Long live DMAHL - Viva DMAHL!

Juanita H. Nañez,
President 2016-2017

PROUD TO ANNOUNCE

As part of the Dallas Multicultural Historical Coalition and Preservation Dallas, DMAHL, in collaboration with the Dallas Jewish Historical Society, submitted an application to the Texas Historical Landmark Commission for an Untold Story Marker. The marker application was for the site of a home that once stood in Little Mexico at 2211 Alamo Street. The home once housed the Anshe Sphard Synagogue, and later the Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana (First Mexican Baptist Church). It was just announced earlier this month that our application has been approved! Stay tuned - we will keep you posted, and plan a great marker installation celebration!
