BOB CAT BUZZ - December 2018

Dear Cienega Families,

We are now in the home stretch of our 1st semester. December is the month of finishing strong. Please take the time to go onto Power School and check your child's grades. High school grades are final at the end of each semester, and it is imperative that we push hard to finish strong academically. Please do not hesitate to contact your child's teachers if you need information about what you find on Power School.

December is also a great time to contribute your yearly tax credit. Tax Credit Contributions are a 100% dollar-for-dollar credit. For those that pay Arizona state taxes, for every dollar that is contributed, 100% will be returned back in their state tax return. People that are single can contribute up to $200 per year, and married couples can contribute up to $400 per year.

Many of our extra-curricular programs at Cienega depend on tax credits to function. Tax credit contributions can be given to any club, sport, fine arts program, activity, or the greatest need. I would like to thank you in advance for contributing your tax credits to any of our programs. Below is our website for tax credit contributions. This website is a much simpler and improved way to make tax credit contributions.

Happy Holidays and please be safe as we move into 2019.

Sincerely,

Nemer Hassey
Principal

Let's take a moment to brag about our stellar Special Olympics athletes! All athletes placed in their divisions and came home with two bronze medals and two silver medals. Also, our Unified Special Olympics Club was definitely the loudest and proudest cheering section of them all. Thanks to the incredible Bobcat fans.

Were so proud of all their hard work!

Thanks to TSW, Be Kind Club, and Art Club. for the cool finisher awards for the first 400 participants. Come on out, we have awesome long sleeve t-shirts for ALL our participants.  It's a great "feel good" event.

COLLEGE & CAREER CHRONICLE

Winter Break Activities & Opportunities

We all look forward to winter break to wind down, relax, and spend time with family and friends. Winter break is also a great time to prepare for your post-high school future. There are many things you can do that won't take much time, but will help set up your future success.

Update your scholarship data. Now that you have earned your first semester grades and have access to some test scores, update your Raise.me account. Raise.me partner schools offer micro scholarships for earning good grades, participation in extracurricular activities like clubs, sports and volunteer activities. Some colleges even offer scholarship money for taking the PSAT.

Volunteer! The two-week break is an excellent time to accumulate some volunteer hours. Get in touch with local churches, food banks, charities and other community organizations. Remember, most colleges are looking for well-rounded, community-minded students. In fact, it is a requirement for many scholarships. Besides, volunteer work can help you to develop valuable contacts and relationships with people outside of your immediate environment.

Go on a college tour. Most colleges offer free tours. You just need to inquire about a tour at the campus visitor's center. Even if you are unable to travel you can take virtual college tours. Many colleges have programs available through their websites to allow you to visit from the comforts of home. Sometimes virtual college tours are in real-time. You can see what's actually going on as it happens.

Take a little time to apply to for one or two scholarships. There are many scholarships you can apply for during various stages of your high school career. You can start investigating scholarships by viewing the scholarships listed on the Cienega High School home page from this link: http://chs.vail.k12.az.us/counseling/scholarships/

You can participate in several of the activities listed in this article and still have plenty of time to enjoy your break. Just a little extra effort during your break can help insure that you have as many scholarship and educational opportunities as possible.

Enjoy your time off!
