Girls Inc. & Black Doll Affair's Third Annual Winter Wonderland Tea Party
On December 1, our girls celebrated Barbie's 60th anniversary with   Black Doll Affair   at our third annual Winter Wonderland Tea Party. Founded in 2007, Dana Hill created the Black Doll Affair, a philanthropic organization and movement for black girls and women to re-establish their self-esteem, self-image, and worth.

During the event, girls enjoyed dressing up, learning about positive female role models, and were each gifted with a doll at the event. Thank you, Black Doll Affair for this fun and empowering event!
Chubb Awards Girls Inc. of Greater Philadelphia & Southern New Jersey a $40,000 EITC Gift
For a third consecutive year, Chubb has awarded Girls Inc. a generous Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) gift. Chubb's contribution of $40,000 will go towards our Education Improvement Organization (EIO) Operation SMART programs, designed to inspire girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. Operation SMART develops girls’ enthusiasm for and skills in STEM. Through hands-on activities, girls explore, ask questions, persist, and solve problems. By interacting with women and men in STEM fields, girls come to view these careers as exciting and realistic options for themselves.  Thank you, Chubb!

Union League of Philadelphia
Girls Inc. is pleased to have been selected as one of more than 50 youth-serving organizations in the Delaware Valley to partner with the Union League of Philadelphia. Through this partnership, three high school juniors of Girls Inc. will take part in the annual Good Citizen Day each spring and receive the prestigious Good Citizen Award. The Good Citizen Day program features a morning of presentations and workshops focused on the aspects of good citizenship. The afternoon includes special, off-site programs at Philadelphia’s City Hall. Students get an opportunity to explore the different branches of government and their respective roles and responsibilities. The evening features an Award Banquet, which is attended by many Union League members and special guests. Since its establishment in 1946, the Good Citizen Award has been presented to more than 17,000 students, many of whom have become leaders in their chosen business or profession. Good Citizen Award recipients are eligible to apply for the Union League's Foundation Scholarships to help fund their college education, and to take part in other Union League programs and opportunities.
