December 2018
All of us at NACMS would like to wish each of you a prayerful and blessed Advent season.

In this newsletter we have some gifts we'd like to share. First, we have a couple of gift ideas for you to consider for your family, friends, or community. The books God Alone and Mary, Holy Possibility would be great options if you are looking for gifts with a Marianist theme.

Please scroll down to click on our link to Sr. Gabby Bibeau's Advent Meditations. We have a short 10-minute podcast for each week of Advent. We also have a link to our most recent "Sharing Our Marianist Stories" entitled "The Gift of Relationship." Father Norb Burns shares his life-time devotion to building relationships in all aspects of our lives.

Finally, Brother Ray Fitz, SM, has written an article examining how we can minister to a "fracturing city and the silence violence of poverty" which we have posted on our website.

G ift Ideas
Looking for a gift idea with a Marianist theme? Here are a couple of our popular books for you to consider gifting a family or community member this Christmas.
God Alone

Adèle de Batz de Trenquelléon is well known in the Marianist Family as the founder of the Marianist Sisters. Perhaps not as well known is her gift of staying in community and communication through writing letters. In God Alone we have published quotes from these letters in a daily calendar format. A blank page has been provided in this publication to encourage the reader to write his/her own thoughts and prayers that are inspired by Adèle’s words.

We hope to offer possibilities for living with Mary at our side. Mary will become our teacher, a woman of challenge, and our companion on the way as we continue to grow in holiness.

Sister Gabby Bibeau, FMI, has prepared Advent meditations based on Mary and Scripture for each week of Advent. The topics include the Annunciation, the Immaculate Conception, the Visitation, and the Nativity. Each episode is 10 minutes long and is a gentle, prayerful way to experience the Advent season.

With the upcoming busy holiday season, we'd like to invite you to listen to our latest "Sharing Our Marianist Stories" podcast. Father Norbert Burns, SM, discusses how he based his whole life on the premise that nurturing our relationships is the most important thing we can do in our personal, work, and faith lives. It will warm your heart.

New on the Website
by Raymond Fitz, SM

In this work, Brother Raymond Fitz, SM, explores the history of our Marianist charism and its apostolic intent and examines how we today can use these same aspects as an “ecclesial movement” to minister to the “fractured city and the silent violence of poverty.”

Advent Prayer
Week 1, Hope
Dear Jesus, you are the hope in our messy world. This Advent, help us slow down, listen to your voice, and focus on what’s really important. We place our hope in you as we prepare our hearts to celebrate your birth on Christmas. Amen.
Week 2, Peace
Dear Jesus, you entered our world on Christmas as the Prince of Peace. This Advent, as we strive to become the-best-version-of-ourselves, fill us with a deep and abiding peace. Help us share that peace with everyone we encounter, especially those who need it most. Amen.
Week 3, Joy
Dear Jesus, help us focus on you during this busy season. May we stay aware of the joy you bring into our lives. We want to find you in the everyday moments and come with hearts of gratitude to your manger on Christmas. Amen.
Week 4, Love
Dear Jesus, may the light of your love always shine in our hearts. As Christmas draws closer, we marvel at your great love for us. Let your love transform every aspect of our lives and touch everyone we encounter. Our hearts are open to you, Jesus. Amen.
