Updated AAP/AAFP/ACP Clinical report On Transition Released
The National Survey for Children’s Health reveals only 15% of youth with and without special health care needs receive transition planning assistance from their health care providers. To address this gap, the American Academy of Family Physicians and American College of Physicians join the American Academy of Pediatrics in calling on clinicians to establish a structured process to ensure a planned transition from pediatric to adult health care as part of routine care for adolescents and young adults.

The updated 2018 clinical report, “ Supporting the Health Care Transition from Adolescence to Adulthood in the Medical Home ,” provides new practice-based quality improvement guidance on key elements of transition: planning, transfer, and integration into adult care. The clinical report is available online and will be published in the November 2018 issue of Pediatrics.

Unsafe sleeping conditions kill a baby almost every two weeks in Clark County
Unsafe sleeping conditions are due to suffocating or rolling off the bed and it happens to any demographic. These deaths are preventable and Baby's Bounty works to prevent those deaths by helping to distribute essential baby items, including cribs to many families in Nevada.

Read more about unsafe sleeping conditions here

Learn more about Baby's Bounty here
Around 3,500 babies die from sleep-related deaths every year. We can change those numbers by having better conversations with caregivers about what safe sleep recommendations look like and why following them can save a baby's life.

To help support and spark those conversations, take this video quiz that reviews recommended safe sleep practices. The quiz is not a test; instead, it is an interactive teaching tool to help health professionals engage families in conversations about what safe sleep looks like and why it is important.

Go Before You Show
The Nevada Statewide Maternal and Child Health Coalition, in coordination with Washoe County Health District, is launching the Go Before You Show® campaign statewide. The mission of Go Before You Show® is simple -- to affect social awareness and create long term change by promoting the importance of women seeing a doctor early in their pregnancy to help improve their health and the health of their baby. Women are encouraged to see a doctor early if they think they might be pregnant or before their twelfth week of pregnancy.

The coalition has flyers to distribute to the community, if your organization wants flyers contact Jacqueline Kennedy by email   [email protected]   or call 702-616-4970.
Sober Moms, Healthy Babies
The mission is to reduce the impact of substance use in Nevada. One of the primary goals is to prevent alcohol and drug use among women of childbearing years and women currently pregnant. To achieve this goal, they have partnered with many of the treatment centers in the state that treat pregnant women struggling with addiction. Overall, for State Fiscal Year 2013, SAPTA funded 22 treatment organizations, providing services in 68 locations throughout Nevada. Together, these providers had 11,907 treatment admissions. Sober Moms, Healthy Babies provide many resources if you are looking for help or if you are wanting to help someone else.
The NV Statewide MCH Coalition sub-grant is supported by the Nevada State Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH) through Grant Number B04MC29352 and BO4MC30626 from the United States Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and the State of Nevada General Fund.
