Dear NCHS Family,

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed some time off. The month of December is upon us and we are in the midst of the holiday season.

My hope is that you have the ability to spend time with your family and friends during this holiday season. My wish for each of you is that you also have the time to allow yourself to rest, rejuvenate your spirit, and focus on those who mean the most to you.

I consider myself privileged to work with such an amazing group of young people. We have such a kind and caring student body, and whether it be in or out of the classroom I truly feel our kids are remarkable in every way.

We are so fortunate to have teachers and staff that work tirelessly to meet the needs of our students and to have parents that are so invested in the education of their children. Our PFA is consistently working to provide great programming for families and enhance the school culture for our kids. We all work together to make New Canaan High School the special place it is.

I wish you all a very happy and healthy holiday season and a very Happy New Year!

All the best,

Bill Egan

NCHS Athletic Department
A Letter from our Athletic Director
As we finish Fall sports, congrats to Varsity Football for a big win vs. Darien in last week’s Turkey Bowl. With that win the team earned a spot in the Class LL CIAC Playoffs. This marks the 14th consecutive year that NCHS Football has qualified for the State Playoffs. Seeded 8th, we had another huge win in the quarterfinal (42-34) vs. No. 1 Shelton. The CIAC semifinal vs. Fairfield Prep will be played on Sunday, December 2nd at 12:30pm at Fairfield University.

Girls Soccer finished the season 11-4-1. They earned a spot in the FCIAC Soccer Finals with a semifinal victory over Darien (5-0) before losing a hard-fought game to Ridgefield in the finals (2-1). In the CIAC tournament, the girls beat Conard High School before losing another very close game to Staples, who eventually lost to Ridgefield in the Class LL Championship game.

Congratulations to Girls Cross Country for their 10-5 record and for winning the FCIAC Eastern Division title! Girls Swim & Dive and Boys Cross Country both finished 2nd in the FCIAC Eastern Division.

HUGE congrats to Andrew Malling, FCIAC champ in Boys Cross Country. He is the first New Canaan athlete to place first in 42 years!
HUGE congrats to Quintin O’Connell, who broke three New Canaan football records: career TD’s, career receptions, and career receiving yards. His 172 yards against Shelton gives him 2,592 career receiving yards, breaking Pete Demmerle’s (’71) 48-year old mark of 2,550.

Our winter season opens December 10th, with V Boys Ice Hockey v. Notre Dame-West Haven at Darien Ice at 8:00pm. Mark your calendars - December 6th is the Mandatory Winter Sports Parent Meeting. Please go to ncrams.com for all winter sport schedules.

One new policy - We will now be charging admission to all home Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball games. Students are free and Booster Members have tickets included in their membership. Can’t make it to the game? All winter sports held in the NCHS Main Gym can be viewed online. Cost is $9.99 per month, $40 for the season, or $60 for the year. Go to ncrams.com - click on Live Streaming to purchase.

We are looking forward to a fantastic winter season! Please come out and support the RAMS!

Officer elections
The BOE elected New Officers for the BOE - Brendan Hayers, Chair; Dionna Carlson, Vice Chair; and Jennifer Richardson, Secretary.

Public Hearing: School Start Times
Members of the audience spoke about the possible change in school start times. Parents who spoke shared the belief that later start times would help decrease the negative impacts of lack of sleep including depression, anxiety, stress, obesity, and an increase in car accidents. They asked the Board to act in a timely manner to support the change of time for students in grade 7-12 to 8:30am.

Transportation Consultant Presentation
Mr. Walsh was tasked with reviewing bell times and student transportation, to evaluate options and identify issues. He presented the Board with four different options and the approximate costs that would be incurred by each.
