GRMC Collaborates with Local Industry to Develop Specialized Occupational Healthcare Programs
As Seguin and its surrounding communities grow in both residential and commercial realms, it is imperative that healthcare needs to grow to serve the needs of both our residents and our employers within the community. Occupational Medicine is a specialty concerned with the maintenance of health and wellness in the workplace which includes prevention and treatment of diseases and injuries thus maintaining and increasing productivity.

For the past year, Guadalupe Regional Medical Center (GRMC) and Guadalupe Regional Medical Group (GRMG), have worked collaboratively with local industry to develop programs that address worker injury prevention, care and treatment for industry employees. “Occupational Medicine is indeed a specialty. Having a physician that understands and knows the actual job duties and what those duties entail, allows a treatment plan to be developed that reduces lost time on the job and lost wages while effectively caring for the employee” said Tasha Montez, Chief Executive Officer at Guadalupe Regional Medical Group. “Once a program is developed we are able to reassess with our industry partners to determine if alterations need to be made or if other needs are identified and additional services or programs need to be developed to fit their specific needs. Our belief is to identify gaps and working closely with each individual business to make sure that we are able to develop the program for their specific needs. That creates the relationship between industry and medicine. That is our goal,” Montez said. Read More

Today, the industry is experiencing exciting and exponential change, as technologies are rapidly changing the workplace. While some predicted that these new technologies would eliminate jobs, data shows that more jobs are actually being created. In 2018, Deloitte and The Manufacturing Institute launched their fourth skills gap study to reevaluate their prior projections and move the conversation forward on today’s hiring environment and the future of manufacturing work. The study reveals that the skills gap may leave an estimated 2.4 million positions unfilled between 2018 and 2028, with a potential economic impact of 2.5 trillion. Further, the study shows that the positions relating to digital talent, skilled production, and operational managers may be three times as difficult to fill in the next three years. Read More

Central Texas Technology Center Earns Regional Economic Development Honor
Helping build a talent pipeline in both Guadalupe and Comal counties has earned the Central Texas Technology Center a regional award.

The center was awarded one of the nine Star of the Southwest Awards on Thursday from the Southwest Region Executive Development Association — recognizing its economic development impact in the area.

“About two years we started an award where we wanted to recognize significant economic development grants and projects that we had funded throughout our five states,” Jorge Ayala, regional director for the economic development association, said. This year, one of the awards went to the CTTC, Ayala said.

“Every time I have a visitor that comes to my office in Austin that wants to go see a project, I send them here,” he said. “You’re lucky in that you have a close proximity so that helps, but I think you’re a great example of what a partnership with EDA can do.” Read More

Chad retired from the Air Force 3 years ago and has been a full-time caregiver. Tonia's brother and sisters recently opened a Marco's Pizza in North Carolina. We have watched and supported their opening from Texas and have been very impressed with not just their products but the Marco's brand overall. We love the idea of a family owned/operated business and hope to teach our kids about not just business but also community involvement as well. We are extremely excited to bring Marco's Pizza to Seguin and hope that everyone here loves it as much as we do.

Why Seguin for your location?
We are a military family that has been stationed around the world. Chad retired after 21 years in the Air Forces and Tonia is still Active Duty Air Force, currently with 23 years in service.
