Year's End 2019

Well, we have made it to December of 2019 and the year is almost up, so I wanted to take a few minutes and tell everyone how 2019 has gone for USDSA. It has been a great year. At the beginning of the year we started our new Steve Van Dyke Memorial scholarship program for children of commissioned Law Enforcement and had a lot of applications. The Scholarship board selected the top applicants and we were honored to award them with our first ever scholarships.
This year has also been a great year for our survival training program and our safety equipment program. We will end 2019 breaking records in both those areas and look forward to what 2020 will bring us. We have had programs in all 50 states and the DC area this year.
As part of our citizen awareness program we send out thank you cards we ask our supporters to sign. These cards are sent to law enforcement agencies across America. We get back hundreds of thousands of these cards each year from law enforcement supporting citizens and want to make sure they get out to show their support and love. Just over a month ago we started adding some safety equipment to the boxes along with the thank you cards, as an extra gift from USDSA. We plan on continuing this next year so we can get more life-saving equipment out to law enforcement departments across America.
We are also planning on starting a whole new cash grant program in 2020. We are working out the specifics on this new program and will be unveiling it the first part of next year. We at USDSA are always looking for new ways to increase our program services and we think 2020 will be a great year.
I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to all of our supporters, if it was not for our generous supporters, we would not be able to do the things we do. Also, a big STAY SAFE to all the men and women in Law Enforcement who are protecting and serving the communities across our great nation.

Safety Tip of the Month: Winter Road Driving
The colder months mean ice and snow on the road. With these hazards, safe driving is even more
imperative
. Here are some tips for navigating winter roads:
- After a snow or ice storm, reduce driving and stay home as much as possible
- When driving, gain or reduce your speed slowly, avoid sudden braking
- Increase your following distance of other vehicles to allow you more reaction time
- Reduce your overall speed, give yourself more commuting time

Glynn County Sheriff's Office, Georgia
Dear Mr. Willis,
I am sending this letter to express our heartfelt thanks for the gift of 50 trauma belt kits that the United States Deputy Sheriff's Association (USDSA) was kind enough to donate to the Glynn County Sheriff's Office. We are most grateful for the generosity extended to us by the USDA and the depth of understanding your organization has for the needs of the many Sheriff's Offices throughout the Nation. We know you can appreciate the fact that many of the Sheriff's Offices have limited funding for such vital lifesaving equipment and supplies . . .
We wish you and the organization the very best in finding willing donors who can help sustain the USDSA in this most important work. Please call on us if we can ever be of service to you and the USDSA.
Sincerely,
E. Neal Jump,
Sheriff

Dear USDSA Staff,
On behalf of the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office, I would like to personally thank you for the generous training equipment that was donated by your organization. We have received the training mats and striking pads for our new training room. These items will be utilized to train our deputies and detention officers on a regular basis. The valuable training and equipment will make us a much better office for the citizens of Cleveland County.
In addition, we applaud your organization for training law enforcement across the nation and doing so at no charge to the agency. We look forward to hosting the USDSA again in Cleveland County and wish you nothing but the best.
Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,

Chesterfield Police Department, Indiana
United States Deputy Sheriff's Association,
On behalf of the Town of Chesterfield, Indiana, The Chesterfield Police Department and all Officers of this agency, I would like to send a special thank you to the entire USDSA team for their donation of 7 Streamlight Stinger flashlights and 20 Emergency Belt Trauma Kits.
This kind donation from your team to ours provides the Officers with two key pieces of equipment that will help maintain Officer Safety and treatment of Officers in a time of need. Flashlights are used daily by Officers; therefore having these 7 new flashlights mounted in each of our patrol cars will make them readily accessible for all of our officers to use when needed. In addition to having the flashlights, it's unfortunate that we that we are to this point, but being able to equip the officers with their own trauma kit could truly be a lifesaving piece of equipment. Though I hope we never need to use these kits, we are grateful to have them available to our officers now.
Once again we can't thank you enough for your donation to our agency and for your support of Law Enforcement across the country. We will do our part and make sure our community is aware of your support and donation to our agency.
Thank you,
William J. Ingles
Chief of Police

Montville Police Department,
Connecticut
Mike Willis,
This letter is being written to express my sincere appreciation to you and the United States Deputy Sheriff's Association for your generous donation of the FLIR Scout TK for our K9 team consisting of Officer Dan Witts and K9 Barrett. This instrument will be a vital tool aiding in the safety and effectiveness of our K9 team. Along with this letter you will find photos of K9 Barrett.
Without organizations like you, the successful training, growth and continued safety of a K9 program would be more difficult. I again thank you in your assistance with our K9 program and hope that you continue your efforts in supporting K9 programs across the country.
Respectfully,
David Radford II

When a law enforcement officer dies in the line of duty, the loss is a tragedy for the family and the community they serve. The USDSA honors all law enforcement officers who make the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the safety of our communities. We urge everyone to take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices that have been made.
USDSA provides a cash donation to the primary beneficiary or memorial fund of any law enforcement officer in the United States, who perishes in the line of duty. If you would like to contribute to this memorial fund, you may donate here.
Remembering those we lost, our thoughts and prayers are with their families and communities.
