I saw a social media post this week that indicated there are only 30 or so days left in this decade. As I thought about this a little more, I realized that my involvement in the Iowa CPCU board spanned almost the past 10 years. What a ride it has been.
My start on the board began very interestingly, at the New Designee Reception in fall 2010. As I showed up a bit early and knew nobody, I sat down at the only table where people were seated at the time and introduced myself to two people I didn't know. They told me their names - Ted Lussem and Richard Keith - and discussed their involvement in the Chapter. Not much later, Dean Miller joined the table and indicated that family life was getting busy and he was looking for a new ChapterGram editor. I left the reception with a dozen new connections and a commitment to work with Dean throughout 2010 and to take over the ChapterGram in 2011.
I hope I've served the CPCUs of Iowa well in the past 10 years. For me, the highlight has been meeting so many great people - at I-Day, Chapter luncheons, social functions, and insurance industry events. What started with Ted and Richard has grown into great relationships with so many of you over the past decade. You've all made it one of the best experiences of my career.
As I turn this column over to Jeff Wilson in 2020, let me thank you all one final time for your kind messages, words of encouragement, and for your continued support of our Iowa Chapter. I'm excited to see the dedicated volunteers on our board continue to take the chapter onward and upward in 2020 and beyond.
I wish you all the best in making the most of what remains in 2019 and for a safe and prosperous holiday season.
