Hello
Frederick’s Golden Mile is a top regional retail destination corridor delivering over 1.5M SF of retail space, 50,000 vehicle trips daily, and 117,000 people living within five miles of the corridor with an average annual household income of $103,000. Stats like that make this section of the historic National Road in west Frederick a logical place for new retail and mixed-use development to occur and we are starting to see that happen. New residential neighborhoods are springing up, retailers are sprucing up including a few recent full rebuilds for Wendy’s and Burger King, and new or expanded businesses are taking leases including Warehouse Cinema, Asian American Center of Frederick (AACF), Centro de Hispana, and Taj Mahal Restaurant. Recently Frederick County Square changed hands from Washington Real Estate Trust (WRIT) to DLG which is working on plans to transform the center into a robust retail destination.
The City is working hand in glove with the Golden Mile Alliance to advocate for the Golden Mile including marketing key business assistance programs like Enterprise Zone Tax Credits and Façade Grants. We are also working to support services offered by AACF, Centro Hispano de Frederick, and individual efforts like the new van shuttle service to help residents with access to medical care offered by Dr. Julio Menocal - a local physician serving west Frederick. The City has prioritized efforts to promote and support the Golden Mile and this issue of Frederick Business eNEWS focuses on some of the work by the City and our partners.
Regards,
