Happy Holidays from Leave a Legacy!
Thank you for raising awareness about legacy giving this past year. Together, we can educate our friends, neighbors, and other York Countians on the importance of keeping dollars here in our community through proper planning.
In 2020, we will continue these efforts with additional billboards and a yard sign campaign. Be sure to come to Steering Committee meetings and read upcoming newsletters for further information on these efforts. Additionally, please welcome Shannon Berwager to her new role as Marketing Committee Chair. She will be taking over the reigns from Jen Hitz in January. Shannon has been a part of the Marketing Committee for the past several years as a representative from the Margaret E. Moul Home. Thank you for taking on this leadership role, Shannon!

Brad Jacobs Receives Award
Brad Jacobs, long-time member of the Steering Committee of Leave A Legacy York County, recently received the PA State Association of Elected Officials (PSAECO) Virgil Puskarich Award of Merit at the PSAECO Legislative Appreciation Dinner 12/10/19.
The program described him as follows:
Bradley Jacobs, the current York Co. Register of Wills/Clerk of Orphans' Court, decided not to run for re-election for a sixth term in 2019. In a January 2019 article in the York Daily Record, Brad stated "Abraham Lincoln once said, "I like to see a man PROUD of the PLACE in which he lives, I like to see a man live so that his PLACE is PROUD of him." It is my hope that others will be as proud of my legacy of service above self as I am... I am honored to have served as long as I have, now the longest-serving elected Register/Clerk since 1839."
Brad spent more than 40 years in public service, first as Secretary of the West Manchester Twp. Authority for
13 years (Shiloh Water System), then as a West Manchester Twp. Supervisor for 10 years and the past 20 years as York Co. Register/Clerk. Mr. Jacobs was President of the Registers/Clerks Association of PA and served as a delegate to PSAECO Legislative Committee for nearly two decades.
In addition, he served in the Ridge Administration as Division Chief in the PA Dept. of General Services. "It was an
honor to have had such an amazing opportunity in public service locally and across the Commonwealth. The
enduring friendships inspired me to do better by others, and challenged me to remain humble, yet passionate, when It comes to serving the people. The more than 40 year journey is one that I will never forget. It wasn't always easy to serve. However, it has been rewarding, knowing I have helped so many people."

Help us spread the word!
The marketing committee has brainstormed ways to create positive content to spread awareness of Leave a Legacy and, we hope, generate donors in the process. We are asking partners to assist in a few ways:
- Please submit a brief story (3-5 sentences) on how Leave a Legacy has impacted your non-profit. Example: The YWCA York received an estate gift of $250,000 - this means we were able to provide care packages for over 200 women and children in our shelters; and fund 100 girls on scholarship through the Girls on the Run program. This donor has Left a Legacy for the lives he or she touched.
- We have new billboards up in four locations in the area. If you spot one and can safely snap a photo, please send to LALYORK@Yorkbar.com with the location of where it was spotted.
- The items above will provide content for several areas, including our Facebook page. Please like the page, and share the page personally and on your business page.
- We are always looking for new content ideas, and welcome your creative thoughts.

2020 Membership Information
The 2020 Nonprofit and Professional Advisor Partner applications will be out soon. Again this year, if you join both Leave A Legacy and the Estate Planning Council, you can receive a 20% discount on the dues for each organization.

Strategies to Maximize Charitable Giving in the Post-Tax Reform Landscape
by Laurie M. Peer, CPA,
CFP®, Partner, RKL LLP, and President, RKL Wealth Management LLC
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act turned conventional planning wisdom on its head, thanks to the substantial increase in the standard deduction and changes to allowable itemized deductions. In the wake of tax reform, individuals and pass-through business owners are looking for ways to maximize the benefits of remaining itemized deductions, including the charitable contribution.
While people will likely continue to support valued causes or charities because they care, there is no denying that the tax deduction for charitable contributions has been a reliable and flexible way for individuals to combine philanthropic and personal financial impact. In the post-tax reform landscape, however, it is critical that donors consider the ideal timing and methods of donation in order to claim maximum tax savings.
