Congratulations to the 32nd Basic Dispatch Academy
The 11 members of the Department of Emergency Communications’ 32 nd Basic Dispatch Academy began on Sept. 16 and graduated on Nov. 15 from classroom training. They will now work to complete the required hours of on-the-job training before they will be released to independently operate the telephones and radios. Please congratulate our newest emergency communications officers!

Wrapping up 2019 community outreach
DEC staff shared safety messages and giveaways with lots of children and adults during fall events, including more than 300 youth at the Touch-A-Truck event on Oct. 19 and hundreds of kids and parents at the
Trunk-or-Treat event on Oct. 31. The Christmas Parade on Dec. 7 is the final outreach event for 2019. Thanks to everyone who worked in 2019, and keep an eye out for opportunities to work events in 2020!

Congratulations to Halloween contest winners
B Platoon dressed as event types, and "bomb threat" Shannon Purnell won the Halloween Costume Contest. The winner of the Halloween 50-50 raffle was Delivia Byrd, who won $136. Congratulations to both!

Next #IamRichmond911 honoree is Kathy Berg
Kathy Berg began working for the DEC as a communications officer on Oct. 13, 1986, and she retired on Nov. 1, 2019, as the accreditation and professional standards manager. She also had served as an ACOS, COS, training specialist and operations manager during her tenure, and she volunteers at the Woodland Heights Baptist Church in Richmond. Congratulations to Kathy!

FINAL DEC Communicator Challenge
Last month's trivia winner
Dinita Jackson entered a correct answer of 2014 for the November trivia contest, which asked in what year did Stephen Willoughby take over as director of the DEC. The answer could be found on the old DEC website and the new DEC website . Congratulations to Dinita, who choose from a 128 MB USB drive, a power bank or a wireless charging pad as a prize.

December trivia contest
All employees who submit a correct answer by the deadline according to these instructions will be entered into a drawing for a prize.
