A December to Remember
The number of neighbors in need right now is truly staggering! In just the first three weeks of December alone, FISH has helped more than 2,600 people with food, more than 200 people with emergency housing assistance, and another 20 families with utilities assistance! We could not do this without the incredible generosity of our community and YOUR support. From one of our participants, "Martha": My son and I want to express our appreciation for helping our family with rent and car repairs. Our life was suddenly impacted due to COVID, loss of employment, and an auto accident with car repairs needed. The stress was pretty bad on us! With your help, we feel confident that we can start to get ahead again. Thank you SO MUCH!
You Helped Us MEAT the Need
Our turkey and ham drive was a tremendous success. In a 3-hour window, we collected enough to fill our walk-in freezer and part of a refrigerated trailer that was loaned to us from our kindhearted volunteers, Fred & Kathy Ambrusch. Pictured to the right is the Wilkie family with their generous donation. Each year their family does something to honor their grandfather and this year they decided to donate turkeys in his memory. Thanks to everyone who participated and to our Youth Advisory Board students who worked the event!
Beyond Grateful
FISH has been overwhelmed by the response from everyone who supported FISH at our Harvest of Hope event and more recently through Colorado Gives Day. Put simply, your donations help ensure that nobody in Broomfield goes hungry or becomes homeless! We are so grateful to live in a community that comes together to support or most vulnerable! If you would still like to make a year-end donation, you can do it here.
Partners Group-A True Partner
Since October, the Broomfield-based corporation, Partners Group, has blessed us with a small crew of dedicated weekly volunteers who come to FISH and help with food operations. This effort is part of their broader 'PG Gives Back" initiative designed to celebrate their 25th anniversary next year. The PG Gives Back program has partnered with several local organizations who work to improve their communities. So far, Partners Group has logged 207 volunteer hours at FISH, donated 1,133 pounds of kids snack bags, and contributed $10,000 to support our mission!
100+ Women Who Care
100 Women Who Care is a group of local women who join together to do good in Broomfield. The group meets quarterly and members can nominate different nonprofits that they want to support. Each member commits to giving $100 per quarter or $400 throughout the year. During their November meeting, the group voted to support FISH and presented a check which totaled $10,800! These funds will go towards purchasing food for families. If you want to learn more about 100+ Women Who Care, or become a member, click here.
Come Together Challenge
Broomfield has always had a hometown feel and is known to be a tight-knit community. In 2020 we have seen so many different ways that people have pulled together to help those in need. One way is by hosting "online fundraisers" for Broomfield FISH. Recently the Broadlands and Anthem Highlands neighborhoods hosted a month-long online fundraising challenge called the "Come Together Challenge." Together residents from these two neighborhoods raised just over $18,000! Thank you to all who participated.
Volunteer Spotlight:
Aditya Mantha
For the last two years FISH has been fortunate to have Aditya Mantha as a weekly volunteer in our Marketplace and Warehouse. In particular, he has been a tremendous help when we process the large Community Food Share donations that arrive on Wednesday mornings. He is known for being reliable, hard-working and extremely motivated. Thank you, Aditya, for your calm, wise presence at FISH!
