Holiday Greetings from
the NCWBA and Food From the Bar
|
The Food from the Bar Committee of the National Conference of Women's Bar Associations (NCWBA) sends warm holiday greetings to you, and hopes the spirit of the season inspires you to participate in Food from the Bar (FFTB) in the New Year. FFTB is a community-wide charitable effort - styled as a friendly competition among law firms and offices - to support local Feeding America food banks. For information about how to participate in 2021, please contact foodfromthebar@ncwba.org. Happy and healthy holidays to you and yours!

Free December Holiday Event: Virtual Guided Wine Tasting |
SPACE IS LIMITED, so RSVP as soon as possible, here, and no later than Monday, December 14, 2020.
As noted in the above event announcement, to participate in this free wine tasting most fully, attendees should consider purchasing the wines recommended by our speaker Ralph Kridner for this tasting, which should be readily available in most locations across the country. His suggestions are:
- Red: La Crema Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (2018) [alternative: Oyster Bay Pinot Noir (2018)]
- White: Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc (2020) [alternative Robert Mondavi Fume Blanc (2016)]
(If these are not available, participants may of course make their own choices.)
Although we will not be tasting a sparkling wine during this event, Mr. Kridner will briefly discuss sparkling alternatives during our program. NCWBA also thanks our event sponsor, the law firm of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP
for their generous underwriting of this event.

FEATURED MEMBER EVENT:
"Work-Life Imbalance; Moving Ahead in the Age of COVID" presented by Women Lawyers on Guard
|
Women Lawyers On Guard will present a timely, complimentary "Zoominar" on Monday, Dec. 14, 5 PM EST to discuss an urgent problem - for all women, not just lawyers: "Work-Life Imbalance; Moving Ahead in the Age of COVID".
Women - in both their work and life environments - have been severely impacted by the COVID pandemic. Many women have been significantly set back in their careers. Some have lost their jobs, some are stretched to breaking, others who are essential workers, have to put themselves and their families at risk every day. Almost all have taken on the weight of more household and work tasks, many have to juggle all this while being teachers to their children, or full-time care takers to family members.
Women Lawyers on Guard is a great organization that NCWBA has worked with on other projects. The notable panelists for this program - all of whom are in the public eye every day - will share their observations, their balancing successes, their strategies and recommendations for the future, with a positive and upbeat take.
Confirmed Panelists: Jennifer McClellan (Virginia Senator); Rebecca Slaughter (FTC Commissioner); Michelle Kallen (Deputy Solicitor General-Virginia); Jason Downs (Chief Deputy AG- District of Columbia)
Please click here to register for the event.

Black Lives Matter: Anti-Racism Resources
|
During such a time of uncertainty, where racial tensions continue to rise and it is a constant battle for the Black community against the still existent racism in America, it is important to acknowledge that many of us are being affected in unimaginable ways. The National Conference of Women's Bar Associations has issued a statement of solidarity with the Black community. Click here for the NCWBA's statement.
Additionally, the NCWBA has compiled a list of Anti-Racism Resources, as well as links to statements from our member organizations. Click here for that list.

Coronavirus Resources
| Coronavirus has thrown us all into a whirlwind of uncertainty, whether it comes to your job, personal lives and/or even mental state. During this time, one thing's for sure: everyone is trying to figure out what works and what does not from a virtual and remote perspective. It's particularly hard as bar associations try to maintain their connections with their members as they try to figure out which communication tools and methods are most effective.
We've decided to put together some resources that you can use in your transition to new ways of providing services and value to members. Click here for resources for your members and ideas from other groups. And please do share your ideas, either by emailing us or by posting to the womenbarleaders@ncwba.org listserve. (If you are not already a member of this list, please email us to request to be added.)
