Tomorrow's Advocacy Chat:
Between Life and Death: From Despair to Hope
Advances in medicine, technology, and knowledge have increased patients’ chances of survival, but oncology practices must prepare some patients for the possibility of end-of-life care and acceptance of death.

Tomorrow at 12 pm ET, join Kashyap Patel, MD, vice president of COA and CEO of Carolina Blood & Cancer Care Associates and COA’s Rose Gerber to hear Dr. Patel discuss his new book, Between Life and Death: From Despair to Hope.

Dr. Patel will share stories about patients who faced death with bravery and dignity, and explain how he supports patients transitioning to palliative care, offering insights and strategies for addressing this challenging issue.

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute Cares for Patients at Nearly 100 Locations
FCS advocate with Bilirakis
Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS) is an integral part of COA’s national advocacy efforts. Its network of nearly 100 locations across the Sunshine State is helping challenge the perception that community oncology is limited to single-practice locations in rural communities.
Using the power of storytelling, more than 90 FCS advocates participate in CPAN activities each year to stand up for people with cancer and the vital role community oncology plays in supporting them when they need it most.

Speaking candidly with U.S. Representative Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) about their personal journey from cancer diagnosis to survival, advocates helped an important policymaker appreciate the real-world impact of community oncology in starkly relatable, human terms. Chapter Advocacy Leader and Director of Care Management, Beth Wittmer, similarly engaged federal policymakers – staff members from Florida’s congressional delegation – at FSN’s state-of-the-art practice via a Sit in My Chair event that simulates for policymakers what testing, diagnosis and treatment feels like and how community oncology practices help patients through those experiences.
