Republican Women of Simi Valley & Moorpark
President's Message
By: Pam Campeau
It's always nice to receive good news. I was on the Zoom call with Congressman Garcia, like some of you were at the end of November. At that time we were still waiting to hear the final final results of his election. It was a hard fought campaign, and I am proud that SVMRWF could play a part in it.

He remarked that the Democrats would control the agenda, and the Republicans would control the floor. This is because Speaker Pelosi will be losing 5-10 votes. Congressman Garcia continued to say that the House will be more balanced in 2021. And there is a good chance of taking the House in 2022. Yes, that is good news.

Congratulations to Congressman Garcia and to AD#38 Assemblywoman-elect Suzette Martinez Valladares! We look forward to both attending future SVMRWF meetings, when their schedules permit.

And more congratulations go to Simi Valley incumbents, Mayor Keith Mashburn, Elaine Litster, Dee Dee Cavanaugh, and Elaine Freeman. To Janice Parvin, Moorpark Mayor incumbent, Danny Groff, Moorpark City Council District 2, and Raul Avila, Calleguas Water District Board.

As you always hear me say, Republican Women can make a difference, whether it be an actual election year or not. And especially in the voter registration area. Just ask Texas. The Texas Republican Women Federated and other volunteers, through two big voter registration drives, one run by Karl Rove (FOX News), helped to keep Texas from heading to blue. They are now a stronger red! I just bet there will be more Democrats that will be changing their party if we have a new president in office! California government, too!

As you know, there is one more critical race. The January 5th Georgia Senate runoff will determine the final winners. If either Republican Incumbents Kelly Loeffler or David Perdue hold on to their seats, the party will maintain their majority control in the Chamber. If both Democrat challengers win, they will then take control thanks to V.P.-elect Kamala Harris who will break the tie-breaking vote.

My deepest thanks go to the 2020 Board of Directors. The year was challenging personally and/or professionally for us all, but I could always count on our team to have the best interests of the Simi Valley/Moorpark Republican Women at heart. I appreciate their leadership, skills, competence, and volunteer time. Thank you for keeping us on track this year! 2nd V.P. Ways & Means Pat Bonnell; 3rd V.P. Membership Char Jackowitcz; 4th V.P. Elaine Freeman; Treasurer Ann Duran; Recording Secretary Christina Lindsey Orta, Parliamentarian Peggy Sadler, Corresponding Secretary, Carol Sherman, Garden Tour Chair Nancy Wofford, and Hospitality, Bonnie Graeve. And many thanks to our own Shalini Thompson, Constant Contact newsletter program designer.

In closing, I pray there will be peace on earth and Covid on its way out. Enjoy your holidays and the season! Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas!

New Year Brings Membership Changes
Renew in December

At the SVMRWF membership meeting November 20, the Board of Directors' brought forth their recommendation to raise full-time member dues from $35 to $45 effective January 1, 2021 (see full explanation in November newsletter). Members attending unanimously voted to pass the recommendation.

A second Board of Directors recommendation to raise associate member dues from $10 to $20 effective January 1, 2021 was also presented for a full membership vote and was unanimously passed.

Gold Membership was raised to $100 effective November 1, 2020

In light of the fact that the annual fundraisers could not take place this year, these increases will assist in maintaining a budget that will allow SVMRWF to continue to pay annual expenses and, hopefully again, continue contributions to non-profit organizations such as Young Republicans, For The Troops, and the Federation's Caring for America projects in Simi Valley and Moorpark, as well as nationally. With fingers crossed, we look forward to community fundraising events sometime next year. And, like you, getting together in person.

It was announced at the meeting you are welcome to renew prior to 2021, before the membership increase takes effect. Contact Treasurer, Ann Duran, at 805-795-0550 or myself at 805-559-8191 to make your payment by credit card, Visa or Mastercard. You can pay by check made payable to SVMRWF and mail to P.O. Box 1484, Simi Valley 93062, or visit our Website, SVMRWF.com and click on "JOIN", click on "Membership" in the blue block on right side of page and use your credit card or PayPal.

"Freedom is the right to question and change the established way of doing things. It is the continuing revolution of the marketplace. It is the understanding that allows us to recognize shortcomings and seek solutions. It is the right to put forth an idea, scoffed at by the experts, and watch it catch fire among the people. It is the right to dream---to follow your dream or stick to your conscience, even if you're the only one in a sea of doubters. Freedom is the recognition that no single person, no single authority or government has a monopoly on the truth, but that every individual life is infinitely precious, that every one of us put on this world has been put there for a reason and has something to offer."
