Moon Lights Holiday Festival
Saturday, December 5
5 p.m.-8 p.m. at Moon Park
The Moon Lights Holiday Festival returns to Moon Township. This annual festival began several years ago and outgrew its original location at the Township building. Last year it moved to Moon Park and included the lighting of all park pavilions. This year we are adding new light displays. Each year we will be building on these displays. We hope to make Moon Park a destination for holiday light viewing.
Santa will arrive on the Firetruck at 5 p.m. He will ride into the park and light our Moon Park Christmas Tree at the Rotary Pavilion. Following the lighting of the tree, Santa will be available for socially distanced photos and visits with local children. Bring your letters for Santa to drop in his mailbox. The event will also feature performances by local dancers and musicians, food trucks, a smores station, and much more. Check the full event schedule online at moonparks.org.
The safety of our community is our highest priority. This event will adhere to current CDC guidelines surrounding COVID-19. Please check the park's website for up to date social distancing protocols and guidelines for the event.

 Operation Santa Cop
Each year, Moon Township Police team up with Froggy Radio to collect toys for the kids in need in our community. Every child deserves to experience the joy and magic of Christmas and the cops can fulfill area children's wishes with their annual "Santa Cop" drive.
Thanks to the generous donations from customers, the Moon Township Santa Cops can deliver hundreds of gifts each year to area children in need. The Santa Cop program connects Cops with kids and provides those kids with a positive Police interaction. This year, the cops to are scheduled to be at the Moon Township Walmart on December 11 with Froggy Radio for the collection. Be sure to stop by for this great cause. They will be handing out the toys on December 16.

 The Moon Park Ice Rink
Did you know that Moon Park will host an acrylic ice rink? Last year, there was a small rink under the Clearview Pavilion that was a big hit. This year the rink is expanding and moving onto the tennis courts. This new location will allow the rink to more than double its size. The 48' x 68' rink will have short sides to allow for recreational hockey or ice skating.
Acrylic ice functions in many of the same ways as real ice, but it doesn't require below freezing temperatures. For the best results, we recommend sharpening your skates. Sharp skates will provide the best glide. The rink is open daily from dawn to dusk and on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from dawn to 9 p.m.
Street shoes are not allowed on the rink. Hockey nets are available for no contact play. No checking is allowed on the rink. Check Moonparks.org for more information.

Boards and Committees Vacancies

Each member brings their own experiences, advice, and input which can be influential when policy decisions and ordinances are voted on.
Township residents interested in volunteering for one of the open boards or committees should submit a letter of interest and resumes to, Moon Township Manager, 1000 Beaver Grade Road, Moon Township, PA 15108. Archery Hunt in Moon Parks
September 19-January 23 (No Sunday Hunts)
With the increasing deer population, Moon Township is hosting a public (archery only) deer hunting program for the 2020-2021 season. This allows a limited number of licensed hunters who applied for a permit to hunt at Moon Park, Olson Park, and Robin Hill Park during hunting season from September 19-January 23. There will be no Sunday hunting and there will be no firearms permitted. Hunters must have completed the Pennsylvania Basic Hunter-Trapper Education Course and have a valid archery hunting license. All Pennsylvania Game rules will apply.
The Hunter Access Program created a partnership between the Game Commission and the Township whereby they work together to improve the public hunting opportunities and wildlife habitat. This program allows hunters and trappers to help manage the game and fur-bearer populations through lawful hunting and trapping. This program will be able to minimize the overpopulation of deer in Moon Township and the surrounding areas. By lowering the density of deer in the area, this will help to lower car accidents caused by deer, the growing tick population, and help to protect green space in Moon Township where deer are overeating. We have reached the permitted limit for the time. For more information and information on the 2021-2022 season, visit www.moontwp.us.

 Spotted Lanternfly Checklist
Join the effort to control and prevent the spread of the Spotted Lanternfly. We need everyone to protect their properties, communities, and the Commonwealth from this invasive insect that has the potential to change our landscape and quality of life.
Any efforts you make in destroying the Spotted Lanternfly or its egg masses help reduce populations on your property and in your community. SLF can be controlled with a combination of physical removal of life stages and host trees and pesticide applications. Use Penn State's Extension Management Resources to safely manage SLF on your property or at your business. Utilization of these management techniques is also important to assist PDA and USDA in control of the spread of this invasive pest. |

Ask Alexa or Google
|
Moon Township collaborated with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant to bring voice-activated
e-gov to resident's households. This will allow users to download the skill of "Make it Moon" through their Google or Alexa app and then speak to their device to ask about events in Moon or report a problem.
This feature also allows users to find out when events are going on by asking questions such as "When is trick or treat?" or "What do I do with my tree limbs?" Also, it can be used like the e-gov service offered online through the municipality to report problems and ask questions.
