According to Pantone Color Institute experts, colors for Spring/Summer 2021 emphasize our desire for a range of color that inspires ingenuity and inventiveness – colors whose versatility transcend the seasons and allow for more freedom of choice - colors that lend themselves to original color statements and whose flexibility easily adapts to our new and more fragmented lifestyle.
These colors (except for Pirouette) are right out of the Spring palette so for all my Springs out there, go for it! 2021 will be a good year for you to "shop till you drop" and extend your wardrobe. Wear any of these shades from head to toe and marvel at how fresh and youthful you look - and feel.
Golden, red-haired Springs will look especially vibrant in the Orange Ochre. Pair it with navy for a classic look with a trendy twist.
Light and fair Springs with blond hair will sparkle in the Purple Rose and Beach Glass. Wear these colors head to toe as warmer weather approaches or mix either with a light stone or taupe color.
Summers will do well in Pirouette - a soft dusty pink. Pair it with any shade of gray or a light navy. Beach Glass and Purple Rose will also suit those with Summer coloring. Leave the Pickled Pepper and Orange Ochre to your warm friends.
These shades are for the most part, too light for Autumns to wear solo. But the Orange Ochre will be fabulous when paired with a rich chocolate or a light Khaki. And Pickled Pepper is just a lighter version of olive so wear it with a deeper olive or moss. Or wear either of these new shades with navy. Navy is a versatile neutral that works for everyone.
If you are a Winter these colors will need to be mixed with your bolder shades or worn in a print. Do be careful of the Pickled Pepper and Orange Ochre as they have a definite warm undertone.
And now - the COLOR OF THE YEAR FOR 2021.
Pantone Color Institute has chosen two shades to represent the new year.
For 2021, the colour authority has actually selected two contrasting shades, “ultimate grey” and “illuminating yellow”, which it describes as “a marriage of colour conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting.” After a tumultuous year thanks to a global pandemic, it’s a cheerful mix that reminds us of sunshine filled days.
“The union of an enduring, ‘ultimate grey’ with the vibrant yellow, ‘illuminating’ expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, in a statement.
