Property Tax Bill Information
Property tax bills will be mailed out to Wind Point residents in the next week. If you need another copy of your bill, please contact the Village Office at 639-3524 or retrieve it from the Racine County website.  Tax payments will show up in the Racine County system as soon as they are receipted (note there may be a delay for payments made at Johnson Bank). Please make sure to include your tax bill paystub with your payment. If your escrow amount is greater than the full tax bill, the Village will issue you a refund check. The refund check is issued within approximately 15 business days.

Tax payment options are the same as prior years. The first installment or full payment is due to Village of Wind Point by January 31, 2022. Below are the options to pay your property taxes:

  • In-Person: Payments can be made at the Village Office, 215 E. Four Mile Road. Please note the Village Office will be closed on December 23, 24, 30 and 31.

  • Drop Box at Village Office: A secure drop box is located on the circle drive outside the office next to the tennis courts. If you would like a copy of your receipt please include a self addressed stamped envelope with your payment. Payments that are received in the drop box between December 30 and January 2 will be processed as paid by December 31.

  • Mail: Send your payment to the the Village of Wind Point, 215 E. Four Mile Rd. Racine, WI 53402. If you would like a copy of your receipt please include a self addressed stamped envelope with your payment.

  • Johnson Bank: Located at 4401 N. Main Street. Both the drive thru and lobby are open. To view the branch's hours please click here.

  • Online: You can pay online at the Village's website. Please note that a convenience fee, based on the amount that you are paying will apply.

Please remember that if you fail to pay either your first installment or the full amount of your tax bill by January 31, the full bill becomes due and interest and penalties accrue on the unpaid amount starting on February 1.

If you plan to pay in installments, any payments made after January 31 are made to the Racine County Treasurer at the Racine County Courthouse, 730 Wisconsin Avenue.

Lottery and Gaming Credit
If your home in Wind Point was your primary residence as of January 1, 2021, make sure you are receiving the Lottery and Gaming credit on your tax bill. You can check by reviewing your tax bill or by checking the Lottery Credit Finder. The credit amount for the 2021 tax bill is $246.63 which is set by the State based on revenue from the Wisconsin lottery, pari-mutuel on-track betting and bingo during the year. The credit can only be claimed for one property and cannot be claimed by renters or on business property, rental units, vacant land, garages or other property that is not the primary residence of the owner. You can still add or remove the credit from the 2021 tax bill before January 31 by contacting the Village Office at 262-639-3524.

Property Taxes Support Local Services. Although the Village of Wind Point collects tax payments, most of your tax dollars are distributed to other jurisdictions to fund a variety of important services and institutions. The following is a breakdown of where each tax dollar goes:
Wind Point School Project
Neighborhood Meeting
Newport Development will hold a neighborhood meeting on the progress of their Villas of Wind Point project at the former Wind Point School property. It will held on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held in person at Caledonia Village Hall, located at 5043 Chester Lane (behind the Douglas Ave Pick n Save) and virtually via Zoom (information on how to connect virtually is below).

The meeting will provide an opportunity for residents to view and ask questions about the site plan and utility plans (including stormwater, water and sanitary sewer). The submitted plans can be viewed by clicking the links below:


The agenda for the meeting will include a presentation by the developer, followed by a question, comment and answer period for residents. Below are the details on accessing the meeting virtually:

Holiday Wreath Lighting- December 4
The annual Wind Point Holiday Wreath Lighting Ceremony, sponsored by the Wind Point Community Club, will once again be held after a year away, on Saturday, December 4 at 5:00 p.m. at the Wind Point Lighthouse.

Bring the kids to enjoy a special visit from Santa courtesy of our friends at the Caledonia Fire Department along with hot chocolate and other refreshments.

Due to COVID precautions, the event will be held outdoors, so please remember to dress accordingly.
 
The Caledonia Fire Department’s ladder truck and the Wind Point Police Department’s squad car will be on hand for kids to tour. 
2022 Dog Licenses Now Available
Dog owners can now obtain their 2022 dog licenses. A dog license application, along with the fee and copy of the dog's current rabies certification, should be submitted to the Village Office, in person, via mail or in the drop box located in the circle driveway near the office. If submitting by mail or drop box, please remember to include a self-addressed stamped envelope for the dog tag and receipt to be returned to you.

Dog license applications are provided on the tax bill inserts and are also available online. State law requires that dog owners obtain an annual license for any dog more than 5 months of age or within 30 days of acquiring ownership.

The license fee is $15 for altered dogs and $35 for unaltered dogs. A $10 late fee is applied to any applications received after March 31, 2022. Failure to obtain a license may result in a municipal citation and fine of $187 for an unlicensed dog.
Nomination Forms Available for Village Offices
Village residents who are interested in running for Village Trustee can obtain nomination paperwork at the Village Office and Village website.

Prospective candidates can begin collecting signatures on December 1. At least 20 signatures from Wind Point electors are required. All nomination forms must be submitted to the Village Office no later than 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

The incumbent for the Village Trustee is Brian Biernat Trustees Jay Hammes and Casey Jones have announced that they will not be seeking reelection for another term.

The spring election will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 and the primary election will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2022, if necessary.

Village Board Updates
The Village Board of Trustees met for a regular meeting on November 11, 2021 The following actions took place at the meeting:

  • Approved the 2022 Budget, tax levy, reserves resolution, wage resolution and fee schedule.
  • Approved a contract with Al Kosterman for Village zoning administrator services.
  • Approved a new job description for a emergency seasonal snow plow operator.
  • Approved the appointment of Village resident Rosa Stong to the Plan Commission.
