CFEP Celebrates 25th Anniversary
For the past 25 years, the UCI Center for Educational Partnerships has proven to be a national model for successful college preparation and support, and in meeting the unique and diverse needs of the Southern California communities it serves.

In November, CFEP kicked off its silver anniversary year with a reception on the beautiful campus of UCI! Guest speakers included UC President Michael V. Drake; UCI Chancellor Howard Gillman; Yvette Gullatt, Vice President for Graduate and Undergraduate Affairs, Vice Provost for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Chief Diversity Officer for the University of California; and School of Education Dean Richard Arum. The event was emceed by Stephanie Reyes-Tuccio, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Educational Partnerships at UCI.

CFEP: FUTURE PROJECTS

NSF funds project to boost STEM success for underrepresented students
Principal investigator and California Alliance for Minority Participation (CAMP) director Pheather Harris wants “every single student to feel a sense of belonging, to feel seen and heard in their academic experience, and to achieve their full potential.”
Judith Kroll wins
Distinguished Leadership Award from
Psychonomic Society
“UCI is a place where people care about how their research has meaning in the world, and where we address issues of social injustice and issues of understanding learners who have been misunderstood in the past,” said Distinguished Professor Judith Kroll.
APA names Sandra Simpkins Division 7 Fellow
The designation is awarded to those who have made a distinguished scientific or scholarly contribution to the field of developmental psychology. Professor Sandra Simpkins is the fourth UCI School of Education faculty to be named a Div. 7 fellow.
IES releases report on research conducted on the Pathway to Academic Success Project
The project, developed by Professor Emerita Carol Booth Olson, aims to improve the academic writing of mainstreamed English Learners in high needs school districts. Three studies met What Works Clearinghouse standards and demonstrated positive effects on writing quality, writing conventions, and literacy achievement.
UCI’s Lauds & Laurels program honors alumna
Carol Hansen (’05), superintendent of the Ocean View School District, was recognized as the 2020 Distinguished Alumna for the School of Education.
A lifelong resident of Long Beach, Calif., Hansen’s contributions to Southern California education demonstrate her commitment to excellence and her compassion for the people she serves.
Card deck game uncovers cognitive bias
Doctoral Candidate and Mind Brain Parenting founder Jenny Woo said the game "stemmed from my personal and professional struggles during Black Lives Matter [movement], the hate crimes, and the divisive society that we are in."
MAT Scholarship Award Ceremony
In November, the School of Education awarded scholarships to individuals in its MAT + Credential Program. Congratulations to the recipients, and thank you to the donors who help fund these illustrious awards.
Tilling A Social and Cultural Shift
A farm three miles west of Disneyland may seem out of place, but not to the Anaheim Union High School District, who hopes the farm will address food insecurity, facilitate lesson plans about agricultural practices, benefit the environment, and teach students about environmental injustice.
