Alumni Spotlight – Sam Lang
“Confused, uncertain, unsure of exactly what this meant for his future…”

These are just a few of the emotions Lori Lang felt upon learning the news that her son Sam Lang had moderate-severe bilateral hearing loss. But once the initial shock subsided, she mustered her resolve and looked ahead, determined to not let the boy’s diagnosis limit his future.

While researching education options, Lori came across an OVV ad in the pages of an AG Bell publication.

“I dismissed it because I assumed we couldn’t afford it,” Lori admits. “But that was before we knew about the grants and scholarships.” Then Andrea Jeffers, a family friend and OVV parent, told the Langs more about the program, and they decided to schedule a tour. Lori recounts that initial visit in vivid detail... (read more)

Staff Spotlight – Meredith Craven
Meredith Craven always knew she wanted to be a teacher.

“I became a dance instructor during high school and fell deeply in love with teaching.” she explains. “I also played basketball throughout high school and college and often felt more drawn to helping peers learn the game than I did to playing the game.”

In her time as a fledgling teacher, Meredith encountered a wide array of students, but the ones she felt most connected to were those who learned in a different way, many of them with disabilities. A natural educator, Meredith wanted to understand their unique learning styles.

“It was during my time as a dance trainee that I met a little girl who was deaf,” she recounts. “I was intrigued that she could do literally everything that was asked of her without the ability to hear, which in dance class I just took for granted..." (read more)

Cincy Gives and #GivingTuesday

THANKS FOR MAKING
#GIVINGTUESDAY AND
CINCY GIVES A SUCCESS!

Over the past two weeks, OVV has been
participating in the Cincinnati Gives Challenge
a friendly fundraising competition for local charities
presented by Cincinnati Magazine.

All the money raised during the challenge will go
toward the OVV Audiology Clinic, which guarantees that
every child in our program has good access to sound.

To kick things off, we hosted a #GivingTuesday
happy hour and trivia night at Karrikin Spirits Company.
The event was a blast, and together you raised
over $12,040 in #GivingTuesday funds.

Since then, you've contributed hundreds
of dollars in online gifts, bringing our Cincy
Gives total to an incredible $12,665.

Way to go! You made this year's Cincy
Gives Challenge one of our most successful yet
and helped raise vital funds for our clinic!

THANKS AGAIN!

WE'RE SO GRATEFUL TO
EVERYONE WHO DONATED!

Behavioral Aide

Eriana Murphy-Trice graduated from Walnut Hills High School in 2017 and then attended Mount St. Joseph University. While majoring in psychology, she became a part of the photography club and worked two jobs as a phone surveyor and CRC counselor. Although she obtained her degree during the pandemic, she enjoyed her maximized free time by painting, exploring nature, listening to music, and roller skating. She also loves to spend time with her family and friends. Eriana is delighted to join Ohio Valley Voices and can vouch that her welcome has been nothing but the warmest!
