December Toolkit Focus:
Bring the Light
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."
- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, the day with the least amount of daylight, gives us pause to be grateful for the sources of light in our lives. It’s no wonder that so many holiday celebrations, such as Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and Shabe Yalda are centered around sources of light. Light facilitates life. Light helps us see. Light warms us. Light drives out darkness. As Dr. King so eloquently stated in his 1963 book of sermons, Strength to Love, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” For our last Racial Justice Toolkit of the year, we invite you to think about how you can bring the light forward. How can you cast out darkness? How can you bring love and light forward to our community? We offer up one activity in the coming year.
