PRESIDENT'S NOTES
As this year ends, we would like to thank all of you. The success of World Trade Center Delaware really belongs to you - our associates, interns, members, the Board, the Government of the State of Delaware, and the larger business community. It is based on the relationships we have built with you over the years, and we really wouldn’t be where we are without your friendship and support. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with, and for you. Our mission remains helping you to expand your business, whether in Delaware or across the globe.

This year has been filled with challenges, a few disappointments, and many achievements. We are gratified by how you have come together with enthusiasm and perseverance. Thanks to technology, we have been able to serve more people this year than ever before. One of those disappointments was having to postpone the Gala and the Choir School of Delaware. Although it is postponed, you may still see these talented performers in a short video and on their website. Secretary of State Jeffrey Bullock, our Champion of Trade Honoree, graciously made a short introduction to the video. Please enjoy the singing and be sure to support the Choir in any way you can.

A very happy holiday season to you and your family. May you all have a joyful, healthy, and prosperous new year.

With gratitude,

Carla & Nesrin
INTERNATIONAL DELAWARE
Welcome to the 5th edition of International Delaware® the yearly magazine of World Trade Center Delaware

This year’s magazine focuses on Delaware’s science and technology sector, the “most international of all professions” as true as when President John F. Kennedy said this almost 50 years ago. Scientists and engineers come from all over the world to develop and deliver products and services used on earth, the moon, and beyond. The diversity of opportunity and talent create a fertile ground for companies seeking to create new products and services for the world’s markets.

Delaware companies, academic institutions and non-government organizations have worked tirelessly to ameliorate the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic, other diseases and the effects of climate change. Many smaller companies have been at the forefront of developing solutions to these, our most critical challenges. One of COVID’s greatest unintended consequences was the chaos in supply chains caused by port closures and labor shortages in factories, ships and trucks, just when increased international e-Commerce required additional containers, port storage space and handling facilities. Here, too, Delaware has met the test.

Automation, information, communications, gene editing, optical, and other evolving technologies create the need for more highly skilled technologists. Innovative local programs ranging from coding to CRISPR are making this groundbreaking technology accessible around the world.

We wish to thank all the people who contributed to this edition of International Delaware -our sponsor Discover Bank, publishing partner Delaware Business Times, the World Trade Center Delaware Board of Directors, and all the companies whose support for this edition makes it possible for the world to understand why America’s Innovation Corridor is located in Delaware.

Welcome to Our New Member
LBM SAC
LBM SAC is World Trade Center Delaware’s newest member. A Delaware company, founded in Peru, LBM SAC produces a wide variety of custom plastic packaging materials for the food, agriculture, and cosmetics sectors. While manufactured in Peru, the company’s packaging is used in products sold from the Ukraine to the US. Major well-known US companies sell products such as organic red quinoa under the Simply Balanced™ brand (Target) or frozen chunked mango (Giant) that employ its packaging. Manufacturers of gluten free, vegan, USDA organic, non-GMO verified, Kosher, and Halal products use their packaging. Companies and consumers will be glad to know that most of their products are biodegradable or can be recycled.

LBM’s packaging ranges from vacuum and molecular bags of nylon and polyethylene to keep products such as meats from drying out or dry foods from absorbing moisture as well as protecting them from absorbing odors. Their dog food bags have an interior laminate to protect the pet’s food from the atmosphere. Their process allows for a high degree of customization and can be adapted to any needs. Flexographic printing can be done with gloss or matte finishes, applying zippers and notches or with laser pre-cutting to facilitate the opening of the bag making the bags consumer friendly and easy to use. LBM’s products lines are not limited to bags and wraps. It also produces aluminum seals for products that require temperature or a stable humidity environment, and lids for containers of yogurt, milk, juices, etc. Its mulching sheets and storage bags can be used by nurseries and greenhouses. LBM’s labels are used on containers for liquids and can be shrink wrapped on bottles for uses as different as sports beverages or AXE body spray, used by men the world over.

LBM’s president, Mr. Jorge Luis Rodriguez Abad (Luis Rodriguez) visited Delaware for several days during the second week of December and met with business and economic development leaders from private industry and government both north and south of the canal. He was impressed by the advantages that Delaware offers foreign companies to establish in the United States. Delaware’s Port of Wilmington, roads, railroad connections, new logistics and business parks, and airports provide many ways that US companies can bring in LBM’s high quality custom plastic packaging to their plants from Peru. The shorter lead times to import LBM’s bags and wraps means a faster turnaround time to sales. Their experience in customizing food packaging and wraps for the world market means that US companies can be assured that LBM is familiar with the requirements and preferences for product presentation in other countries, an advantage when US companies wish to export.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of the World Trade Center Delaware, it is our pleasure to welcome LBM SAC as the newest member of the organization.
